Checkmate Inspections

A couple months ago when I went on a 'sign up with all MSC's ever!!' spree, I apparently signed up for Checkmate Inspections. I just received an email from they stating that they occasionally have work in my area so I need to fill out the independent contractor application and a W9. Now that's fine, but the application is like a job application. They want my previous 3 employers including supervisor name and phone numbers. I don't feel comfortable giving this information out, mainly because I don't want them getting calls because I don't tell people I mystery shop. Besides that, they want three professional reference names and phone numbers. This also seems unnecessary.

I thought maybe if I just left these fields blank, they would just overlook it and accept me. Maybe they'll only pay attention to it to make sure I signed the bottom, I don't know. What do I do in a situation like this?! I've never had an MSC ask for so much information like this that I don't want to share. Any opinions or advice with this MSC would be great. smiling smiley

That doesn't sound like Checkmate Inspections. On the other thread, I replied that I had sent the owner and his son an email to ensure these emails are coming from them. Stand by.

I posted my findings on [www.mysteryshopforum.com]

I sent a follow-up email, asking about the detailed job application. It might be faster if you just call Russ @ 912.897.9728 | 800.847.0727

So according to your last post on the other thread, it's a legitimate email? I'm still curious about the references and past employers information they need. I still don't feel comfortable providing that. Maybe I should email them and ask if I could withhold that information?
FYI: Here is the email that was sent.

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for contacting us from our web site. We are always looking for qualified field representatives and do have work occasionally in your area.

Please fill out the attached W-9 and independent contractor application and email back to us – these are pdf fillable forms which you will need to sign and scan to attach to your return email or fax after completing.

Thank you again and we look forward to hearing back from you.

Thank you,

@mkkp: I just talked to Russ and confirmed that Maggie O'Hara is associated with Checkmate Inspections and, yes, they're sending out employment applications, W9s and ICAs to the shoppers who had previously registered on their website. (She might be the reason they're becoming so "official"winking smiley

Checkmate in on my favorites list and I highly, hands-down recommend them. If you return the required documentation, you will soon see why.

Thanks for the info @stilllearning! I might ask if I could exclude references. I don't want people I know to be called and told about my secret life of mystery shopping haha.
I understand completely. The Checkmate Inspections I'm used to working with did not request a detailed job application. It was a lot more "informal". Maggie, who I've never heard of until today, is perhaps organizing things. (smile)

So they are saying that this is a job application? Wouldn't that make us employees then if we get hired?
@Sybil2: "They" are saying no such thing. I used "job application" as a descriptive phrase.

If you see the email from them I pasted above, they call it an 'independent contractor application.'
@stilllearning I finally just got a response from Maggie that I can exclude the information I don't feel comfortable with sharing. Yay. I hope they have good shops in my area since you said they are one of your favorites. Just thought I would update you. Took her a while to respond, but better late than never!
I m new to the mystery shopping but I prefer inspections. Currently I do inspections with Trendsource (MSI) anywhere from $17-$50. They are not that difficult. Are the fees similar or better for Checkmate..
@pam.butler: The fees are consistently better and the work involved is significantly less. On the other hand, TS inspections are plentiful; Checkmate's are not. I recommend you also sign up with GCS. smiling smiley
