One thing that people forget is that, as independent contractors, you must deal with payment issues like any other company. In the business world, you do NOT get paid weekly, or even monthly. It is far more the standard for 60-90 day payment cycles, and you typically get paid when the tier above you gets paid. Heck, in the construction world, with many clients, 60 days is fast by the time you go through the owner's review, the bank's review (if applicable), and then cycle down the list of contractors, sub-contractors, sub-sub-contractors. This is part of the reason you should take into account the fee you are willing to accept when it comes to payment terms. In the business world, if you are late one day, all of your clients don't suddenly revolt and act like the sky is falling.
If some MSCs adhere to ultra fast payment cycles, that's great...but some perspective is in order for situations like this.
