First Five Diamond Shop

I just got assigned my first shop for 5D...I think. It's listed on my jobs on Shopmetrics but I received an e-mail from a scheduler to confirm my availability. Is that how they typically assign jobs? And after I officially accept it, do they send the surveys via e-mail, since everything appears to get input into a Word document?

Any other advice you would offer to successfully complete the shop beyond the typical stuff? It's a 2-night hotel with spa and restaurants.

Thanks for your insight! smiling smiley

I have not worked for Five Diamond however I do complete a ton of resort/hotel shops.

1. Write up the sections as you go along (as they occur).
2. Make a schedule for yourself so that you don't miss any interactions.
Yes, and yes, via email. The SAME email that assigned you the job (it's how they keep track); use the Reply button. Also, every report gets constructive feedback (at least I don't THINK it's just me.) It's meant to help you and make future reports even better. Don't sweat it.

Now scheduling travel shops for the day after Christmas through mid-January.
You can even give the Project Manager a call, if needed as well. It's like any typical hotel shop. It's best to just grind out the reports as they happen, so the only things left by the time check out occurs would be the bellman, front desk and valet. Good luck!

Five Diamonds is great when it comes to constructive feedback and staying consistent with it from project to project. It's what I'm used to coming from the consulting world.

They're also one of the few MSC's I stash away feedback emails, as they're actually useful if you consider on regularly taking on their projects.

Thanks all! I've done several hotel shops for another MSC, so at least it won't be my first. In fact, just did one this past weekend. Good to know I'm already doing some of the things you've recommended, such as filling reports out as I go. Each time I've done a hotel, the only thing I have left to do when I get home is the check-out and valet departure. I appreciate the other feedback, as well!

Hi, Adam from Five Diamond here. We have been slowly transitioning to ShopMetrics so some of our processes are a mess. You are exactly right, after being approved on ShopMetrics, you will receive an email with the hotel details and agenda for the visit. There are a few sample reports at the end to give you a feel for how each item on the agenda will work.

When you receive that email, send any dates that you are available to the Assignment Manager. He will check to make sure a proper room is available and then tell you what to book. It is helpful if you can give a few dates in case the hotel is full. You can also check the hotel's availability on their website before you pick your dates. Most of the websites now have a 'my date is flexible' button so you can see the whole month.

As we get closer to the date, we will send you all of the templates and set up a call to walk you through the visit (if it is your first shop with us). Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you! I could not quite tell based on the e-mail and the Shopmetrics assignment. I appreciate the information and the opportunity to complete this shop!
