Their job board is a pain because they seem to think Dubai, San Salvador, Turtle Bay, etc are within 60 mikes of my home. And the jobs that are within my range aren't even at the top, I have to scroll through all the garbage to find them. Am I missing something? Is there a way to filter that sh it out?

Is Coyle on ShopMetrics?
If the search bar is only displaying your zip code and radius, try typing in your state abbreviation as well. That fixed the problem for me.

Agreed. You have to enter your state abbreviation to weed out the foreign components.

It's more of a Shopmetrics issue than a Coyle issue....though I guess the fault also lands with the MSC trying to save a few $$ buy going with Shopmetrics, and launching a global project on a software platform that's apparently incapable of mapping foreign addresses.

If there's an upside to all of this, my geography knowledge had increased heavily in the past month as I was forced to 'Google' many of the locations I was unaware of...

I so agree, it takes me 15 minutes to be able to see jobs in the USA let alone CA. I wrote and asked why I keep seeing jobs in Dubai and Europe only. They told me to re-filter, but every time, entering your state alone doesn't work. I know they have great hotels, but at this point I'm not waiting to get reimbursed. I hope they won't take this post and hold it against me, but, then again, I'll live. Their not lying, just a bad choice of software to use.

Add your State, leave the Zipcode and radius alone.

o.k., I did it, I had to put in Los Angeles, CA and my zip and hit update filter, but it worked...

Adding the state works for people who are not near other states. For me, I have to look at PA, NJ, DE, and MD individually. It is faster to just deal with looking past the shops in Dubai.

Very often MSCs fail to post - or even know - postal code schemes employed by foreign postal services. In other cases, such as the case with Emirates Post Group, postal codes are not employed.

Shopmetrics seeing a postal code field blank does not know if the shop is, or is not, within your geographical range therefore rather than assuming that the shop is outside your area, Shopmetrics provides the shop as it might be within your area.

That said, if I paste the address of the foreign hotel into Google maps, it quickly locates the hotel. Shopmetrics, rather than relying on a clunky mapping system, could probably for a small fee incorporate the Google engine into their maps and pinpoint the locations much better. I'm guessing they are too cheap to do that and don't have the resources to develop the robust mapping system needed.

I guess it's worse if you live in Dubai and can't weed out al the shops in the sates....

Really? It's by far my favorite platform, including the proprietary ones. Wish more MSCs would try to save money!

You always say that. I think that you are alone in liking the platform though.

I'm actually going to Dubai in January, but don't want to deal with the craziness if there's a problem. I know I will have internet, but if they try to call me with questions....

If phone use concerns you, pick up a prepaid SIM card at the airport when arriving in Dubai. Etislat or Du are good alternatives. If the value for the shop is decent, having the phone for questions can make it worthwhile.

As others have pointed out, it appears to be a shopmetrics issue. Sentry Marketing always shows me two shops (no matter how I filter) one in Kuwait City and the other in Abu Halifa, AH. Heck, I don't know what country Abu Halifa AH is in and I am never going to do a burger shop there even for $40.

What is your price? I would consider it for $700 but that's before I've even looked at airfare so that could change.

If they were going to pay for my travel, I'd consider it. Especially if I could get them to pay for a hotel....even moreso if I could find a hotel shop with another MSC and still get the original MSC to pay for my hotel. Better yet, let them both reimburse me for my flights! Lol

I was curious. The lowest round-trip airfare is currently over $1200 from PHL, and the flights takes 14 air hours. That would not be the longest flight I have taken, but you can't come back the same day, so a hotel and meals are definitely required. I can almost always find post-security shops at PHL. The least expensive flight is to Geneva on UA and then connect to Dubai via Swiss. So, nice accumulation of Star Alliance miles for me. This would end up taking 4 days to complete, at minimum. That is my kind of route!

First, you are a little bit screwed for travel if you airport is PHL, since it's notoriously slightly more expensive to travel in/out of. I can get a N/S flight to DXB from LAX for $1028.

Currently there are 14 overnights available in Dubai. Nobody wants to stay there for that long, so let's just say you split it with another evaluator and take 7 of them. If you were to negotiate a small additional travel fee for each hotel, you would have enough to pay for your flight and taxis between each hotel...but you gotta eat, and they are not going to cover your meals.

So...that's where the food/retail shops and the real $$ comes in. What's it worth to the other MSCs to get their Dubai shops taken off the board? If you can get $100 to take a retail shop in Dubai, that's now pure profit. After all, what are you going to do in Dubai for a week besides shop and write reports?

Thing is, the best paying meals are ones that need a guest, so that's where having some previous travel shops under your belt will help. Since you are picking up a ton of air miles, you blow some on your guest and get them an award ticket to come with you. Now you are set up to take all the high-end dinners in Dubai. Provided you have done enough of the hotel assignments in advance to gain platinum status with the hotel group, you will also get a free breakfast each morning. Take a few airport shops on each side as well and you come back with a week long vacation in sunny Dubai with some $$ in your pocket!
