NAMS

Does anyone have info they could provide to me about the National Association of Mystery Shoppers?

You might mean NARMS

some love them some do not
some think they help get jobs some think they do not

it is totally an each to his own game....
biggest thing I would say most of us stick to is NOT to pay to get a shop
No, I think NAMS is correct. I just don't recall whether it was the place that used to sell their own 'certifications' or the one that had you sign a pledge that you would take no reimbursement only shops and/or shops with a fee of less than a certain amount. There have been several "associations" for shoppers rear their heads over time that sort of died out. Any association needs to be funded somehow. Few people work for free just for the greater good. And of course folks want to join associations that will protect their rights. Would you like to pro bono fight with every MSP for every shopper who got stiffed? "Somebody needs to do something!" is a standard outcry, but you won't find me stepping up to THAT plate out of altruism!

NARMS is the merchandising folks. They are not mystery shopping.

NAMS and a few others, if I recall correctly, were starts at a shopper's association. But frankly we know that in terms of information exchange, forums are about as good as anything. I don't know that any of the 'associations' that were ever started up amounted to a hill of beans because they don't address issues that plague shoppers such as stiffed shoppers, unfairly rejected shops, termination issues, etc. etc. My guess is that they were 'feel good' attempts at 'getting organized to have some clout'. When you realize, however, that mystery shopping is a revolving door and forums or any other interaction with other shoppers touch relatively few shoppers, you are swimming against the tide.
They are calling themselves a mystery shopper association and are selling individual memberships - regular $24.95 , silver $39.95 and gold $99.95 - and business memberships. Not sure what you get for your money/membership, but they say becomming a member and completing your profile immediately puts your profile into the hands of 80 MSPs. Obviously, I didn't think it was worth and didn't pursue it, otherwise I would have info to give......
Did some quick checks on another board and this outfit is not even an association of shoppers. It is just another pay-to-shop opportunity to spend your money like the other ones that 'help you find shops'. So time to RUN LIKE HECK THE OTHER DIRECTION!
