Payment Bounced from NSS (UPDATE--they are responding)

This completely unrelated, but my computer's virus protection just alerted me of a blocked malware threat on the NSS homepage.
For reference, I use Avast Premier anti-virus (this is the paid version with greater protection, but the free version is available online too).

It happened again when I went away from and back onto the NSS homepage. AP popped out a message that said a threat was blocked. The link containing the blocked object was the NSS homepage with "/" (backslash) at the end of .com and the words "banner" and "image" something something something at the end.

I could be one of the images/banners/ads on their homepage. You can scroll over images, links and objects to see if something like that comes up, where the homepage address ends with a "/" and says something something "banner" .."image." Although, you should be careful and probably not visit their page without a good anti-virus.

I use AdBlockPlus to block ads on webpages (I get rid of the default white-listing, so that the program blocks any and all ads), so maybe the image didn't actually load when I went to the NSS homepage. But my anti-virus immediately put out a message saying it blocked a malware threat.

It's possible NSS is infected with malware.

Hey everyone,

Here's the EXACT link my anti-virus is giving me (what I posted above was slightly inaccurate):

(I guess you have to scroll your mouse pointer over it to see the link details, since the forum only shows the basic link.)

That's what's on my blocked threat alert (went back for a third time to check it out).

It also says in Avast Premier in the alert box under "Infection":

VBS: Malware-gen

I'm not a technical person, so don't ask me what any of this means!! Just passing along what I've seen!

Now that I think about it, maybe there could have been more than one object threats blocked.

It's possible that the first message I thought I saw with .com/ ..."image"..."banner" was also a threat if such a thing existed (and the link I jotted down above was a different threat blocked).

I don't know.

I definitely hope NSS wasn't hacked or has lots of malware implanted on its ads or images.
I've seen ads on other MSC sites but I've never seen an ad on NSS site. Nor do I get the message or blocks that you're describing. Their webpage has the https in front of the www and says 'secure'. I'm using Chrome. You may be on a different site? This is the actual NSS website link: [www.nationalshoppingservice.com]

I just go to:

www

.nationalshoppingservice.com

I tried with https: in front instead of http: and it's the same site. The https: version, if I understand correctly, is secured.

And I COULD BE MISTAKEN, but I thought that https only encrypts data so others cannot possibly see/steal it, but doesn't protect against possible malware embedded into images (be they ads or other objects)?

I don't know, it seems far-fetched to me that a MSC would have some sort of malware. But, I guess it's possible that they could put a tracker of some sort or something in cookies or something. There are no ads, so that's not what your malware software is picking up, right. There are objects but you don't click on the objects. Next time there is a computer shop, where you take your computer in to see what's wrong with it, that could be your opportunity to find out if anything gives here. I have Norton and it's not picking anything up. I really don't see how you could get to NSS without the https://
I see that this conversation has gone away from the bounced checks. I still have not received my money from December. I did everything that the site recommended. I have heard back and was told that a paypal payment would be made. Anyone else have news on this matter?

You don't need https:, as far as I know, because the extra "s" just means encryption I believe. I could definitely be wrong there, but that's how I've understood https:

I wanted to also mention that I got a blocked threat message from either Amazon.com or Rotten Tomatoes the other night as well. I can't remember which website it was, but I know it was one of them, because I was searching for movies and I remember a warning message popping up.

Maybe some banners or images were blocked that were suspicious (and may or may not have had malware). Anyhow, given that I got blocks on major websites too, it's possible that NSS's blocks were also just for suspicious items and not actually infected malware.

Just thought I'd put that out there. smiling smiley
I think if you got a blocked threat message regarding Amazon its your puter. You should take it in to have whatever is on there removed. I cant afford to have my hard drive go capoots, i would take it in the geek squad
Just wanted to update and say I received my bounced check amount plus bank fees today via Paypal.
I've received two emails - one saying payment coming soon, another saying payment being processed. Not happy with this company right now but I will be patient and give them a chance to work it out.

When my check bounced, i went straight to the forum and found this thread. After an email to NSS, i got paid via paypal including reimbursement for bank fees .

Hold your breath? I just got paypalled recently (actually, Jan 26th) for a shop and I parted ways with them in...late October? Even if I last shopped in November, that's kinda pushing that next month payment I got used to, no? Yeah.

Hmmm, Paypal can't bounce can it?

Is it only paper/physical check deposits that can bounce?

If Paypal can't bounce, then that's the safest route for anyone worried about bounces and fees associated with that.

I've continued to hold out on shop offers from NSS until I receive my first payment, but as the bonuses get higher, I've been tempted. grinning smiley

Any new stories of payment successes guys? Or, conversely, any new stories of non-payments?

I confess that I do like their shops, but it's still a risk for me at the moment b/c I don't have a very strong financial situation and don't want any problems of getting payment delays or bounced checks.

If anyone has any recent news, I'd appreciate it.
I'm still waiting for December and Jan. payments !! Been on the phone with them 3 times over the the last 10 days. Odd, no shops in my area now ?!?!?!?!? Been working for them for 6 years. So strange !!!
I really feel for you if you haven't been paid.
If you like taking a chance on doing more assignments without getting paid for past ones then you must like gambling.
I hope you all get paid.

I called their office before depositing the check last Monday. It cleared just fine (just like every other payment I have had from them in the last 15 years). They had a fraud hold on their account. It's super annoying that people start with the "sky is falling" stuff so quickly.

Thanks for sharing, SCMama.

I guess what made it curious to me was why some people's checks bounced and others did not and why some are still awaiting old shop payments.

Wouldn't everyone's checks have bounced around the same time?

I wouldn't be worried about them either. My biggest concern was that they never SAID publicly they had a fraud hold. They insinuated it by saying they had had one before, but when prompted they did not say (at least here) that that was the issue this time. If that was the issue no big deal. It could happen to anybody and I feel like less people would be concerned about that than by the non answer. I was just confused why they never replied and said yes, it was a fraud issue. If they did, I missed it.

What gave you the idea that I was referring to you? I find that curious.

I have no idea why some people are waiting for payment. I had my check at the time, but didn't rush to the bank with it, as it was less than $100. If I had deposited it immediately, I probably would have had it bounce too, and the would have been issued a new check with the bank fees. Lucky timing for me.
Well, I thought I'd update in the interest of full disclosure.

I gave in. grinning smiley The bonuses got too high for me to turn down. I took a shop, despite knowing of the recent issues and not having been paid yet for my old shops. Although, those old shops aren't due yet to be paid out.

*crossing my fingers*
