SeeLevel $20 car shops warning

Jobslinger ad describes the shop as "no narrative, no test drive".......
Once assigned the report includes a 1,500 character "Summary of overall visit"....

Just thought I would let others know there is narrative involved before you self assign and are disappointed like I was.

True, but 1500 characters isn't terrible. It's the ones that want a detailed narrative on everything that occurred that I hate. But, I won't do a dealership shop for less than $40, no matter narrative or not. Too time consuming.
Still slapping myself for doing Intellishop's 17.00 dealership, 40.00 is o.k., got 75 for Tesla, live and learn..some companies have a lot of nerve...can't really blame them, if they get shoppers to do it....

Live consciously....

They asked me to do the Tesla shop for $75 but the nearest location is about 3.5 hours round trip. No thanks. I was really interested because I always wanted to drive one. I countered with $125 but they wouldn't accept it. I did an Audi shop that was 20 miles away for $60. That's more like it.
I agree that a 1500 character narrative isn't too bad. However, the real issue that the OP brought to light is the MSC advertised the shop as a NO Narrative shop when in reality there was a narrative required...no matter how small.

As ICs, we should all frown upon misleading advertising with these job postings. At the least this is a case of false advertising and at the worst could be a breach of contract. We accept jobs based on the information we are provided by the companies we contract with. If they are misleading us intentionally, how can we make good business decisions regarding jobs we accept?

Fortunately, most of the deceptions I have experienced have been contained to misleading email subject lines. But, there have been a few cases where the job was significantly different than advertised.

I wonder what would happen if the OP refused to write the narrative as it was outside the scope of work s/he agreed to initially?

"We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl -- year after year..."
Oh, I am sure that the MSC will come back with something like "a summary is not the same thing as a narrative" or some sort of syntax vagueness.
I fell for this one also.

It was a pain because there were several sentences that had to be written for each drop down section. It took longer than a standard narrative!

See Level HRX - I finally de-activated myself from them. They are bad news, bullies, and will grind you down until your finally say to yourself "ENOUGH". No one deserves the bad treatment they dish out to their shoppers. Stay away!

Yeah, we all know what would happen. Refused by the MSC, and she'd be out the time, dropped by the MSC, and it would not be worth suing over. Hopefully if it's pointed out to the scheduler, they will update their pitch. It could be they changed it and the scheduler didn't know...?
This was definitely dishonest advertising and would make me skeptical of applying for other jobs with the company. Fortunately I would never have fallen for this particular lie, since I would never do a new car dealership shop for such a low wage.
I love shopping for SeeLevelHX, shop for them almost exclusively doing $75 car negotiations that take two visits. I choose how far I want to travel, choosing the shops that are closest to me or creating a route of shops that are farther out but in groups of four. The schedulers and editor that I deal with are excellent and very accommodating. I have not run into an offering for a $20 shop with "no narrative." As far as Tesla shops go, there is no test drive for the Tesla and it is a one visit negotiation as there are no deals to be had on a Tesla.
I stopped doing dealership shops as well. The amount of time; going to the dealership then coming home to process an extensive report, just wasn't worth the fee that was offered.
Having just reviewed the submission page, it says a "limit of 1500 characters each." Limit meaning the maximum amount, I would assume? I certainly woulf not take kindly to having to write a minimum 1500 word essay.. I mean, narrative... Err, I mean "description." Especially since I too signed up because it was advertised as "no narrative."

timg, every question has a drop down box. This is where you write your 1500 characters. There are a lot of drop down boxes to fill out.

At 1500 characters each, that equates to a full narrative.

One and done!

I agree and find it difficult to describe in 1500 . I have often had to go back and revise my narrative to get it down to 1500! Easy shop and YES it is worth a minimum of $40.
I did a dealership service shop for them recently, and really enjoyed it. I usually do those shops for a different MSC, but gave them a shot. The narratives weren't bad, and I got paid well for my time. Sorry you had a bad experience. I didn't feel like I had to put in too much effort, and I got excellent ratings as well.
I haven't done a dealership shop, but I've worked with SeeLevel and have had no issues with them. That being said, $20 to even step foot in a dealership seems like torture... I'd rather apartment shop and write the tedious narratives any day of the week, lol.

That's funny, me too! I am usually trying to find areas that I can cut from my narratives. An app got me with "quick, 6 questions!" and each question had a part a, b & c for each checkout lane- Plus, multiple photos for each letter. Then ended up not paying me. Claiming something was wrong with my internet connection. hmm. I filed an appeal but you know, I never heard back after that. ha ha. That's what I get for trying to do something quick, always a catch!
I have done 6 Telsa shops and have driven the self-driving car each time
I will not do them for less than $100.00

When I was just starting out discovering mystery shopping and trying to establish myself, I completed shops even when they turned out to require more than what the scheduler represented. Now that I am established and have long since discovered how MSCs are willing to abuse shoppers in various ways, I no longer allow myself to be taken advantage of with something like this. Now when I claim or receive an assignment, I immediately check the instructions and form. If there is anything seriously different from the requirements that were advertised, I immediately cancel it and explain my reason either online or via email to the scheduler. Sometimes I also make a fee offer for rescheduling the shop. This protects me and provides feedback to the scheduler and the MSC.
