Seelevel Chicken Restaurant Receipt Policy

Seelevel has a new policy that you cannot scan receipts for this client. Not sure how many of you use Neat (receipt scanner)-- but I do and it's a big convenience when it comes to scanning receipts -- especially long ones like this one. Now they say they must be able to see a background.

I cannot understand what would be wrong with a receipt scanned vs. picture. Bizarre..hope others don't adopt this ridiculous policy.

I completed a chicken shop today for them and I too saw the new request on receipts. I do believe it is because people were figuring out ways to forge the receipt. And this is there way to try and stop the problem.

That's interesting and also bizarre.

I would think that a business would have their own copy to cross-check the shopper's receipt with. Often shop guidelines warn that businesses have video surveillance and will use it to check on shoppers' accuracy and facts. I figure with all that in place and the willingness to go to those lengths, they'd also have receipts of their own to cross-check.
If you were the MSC would you want your client coming back to tell you they checked the receipt and it was forged? It makes the MSC look bad and could risk their contract.

I think what I thinking also (but didn't articulate) was that I figured shoppers would know better too - as in, they should know that the companies also have their own copy. It's a huge risk - particularly with larger companies that have presumably meticulous and high-tech record-keeping methods.

But your point is also well taken.

Why are people's thoughts on the itemized receipt copies only?

I've seen this request from a different mystery shopping company and different client too and had wondered about it before. Is it to see if servers are correctly charging customers? Why an itemized versus summarized one? Any important differences?

edit:

Thinking about it more, couldn't people forge pictures too if they go out of their way to forge scanned receipts?

The itemized receipt is going to show what was actually ordered. It provides proof the required items were ordered and anything prohibited was not. If the restaurant is concerned about server errors, it could also verify everything was charged correctly.

We have had the discussion before about forging POV and most of us feel if someone is so determined they will find a way. Personally, it seems like way more work than just doing the job.

I thought it has to do with the file type a MSC accepts. If the scan is not the correct file type, it is not acceptable. If converted to the correct file type, if may not have maintained the proper aspects.

Does this mean we can't just snap a photo of the receipt with our phones anymore and upload that??

I think it is a photo they are now requiring instead of a scan.

I finally did one of those for them and I loved how quickly they had checked and rated my shop. So glad to have found them as the other MSC's reimbursement was so crazy low, and Seelevel actually pays a shopper fee.
I have not done this job myself...what does that mean that they must be able to see a background? Do they want an arm or a finger or a kitchen table in the pic? Would I be able to lay my receipt down on my scanner bed on top of some book or something and use that? I will have to check my See Level account to see what Chicken job you are all talking about. Taking a photo and downloading it is way more time consuming for me so I probably would not do this job with this requirement.
And how does one forge a receipt? Not that I would bother. I do these jobs for the food, not the money, although I will gladly take any money thrown my way. I often see receipts on the floor or tables in restaurants and think if I wanted to I could just pick a few up, find one with the correct order and use that. How would they know unless they checked their video. And I doubt they do that on every job. By the way I am definitely not advocating any shopper picking up a receipt and faking the job.
I have no idea what they want. I submitted POV's that were within their new guidelines and it appears they have now permanently banned me because of "invalid POV." I sent a few e-mails and only had one response so far that one of the schedulers was moving it up the chain of command, so until then I'm just waiting to figure out what I did wrong. I don't even own a scanner.
I recently did my first shop with them and the scheduler was very specific in what they what in terms of the photo of the receipt. It was fine to use my cell phone but I had to take one photo of the full receipt showing a background (kitchen table for example) then take as many close up photos as needed to be able to read the receipt. For this one, it meant three pictures, the top, middle and bottom of the receipt. Because it was my first shop with them, I assumed it was just a weird policy they had.
Re the Neat scanner, or any other for that matter, can you not just stick the receipt to a dark piece of paper, like with a bit of glue-stick, and send it through?
This seems to be the new policy for receipts with several dining shops with this MSC. They want a photo of the receipt that shows all four corners of the receipt with some of the background. The photo is not to be cropped. There is a concern that some receipts were being altered. Some of the receipts are long and I have to pull back to get the whole receipt in the pic, but it hasn't been a problem. All my photos have been accepted and there is the option of providing closeups of specific receipt sections.
Many MSCs only accept picture formats of receipts, including MF. I am not sure what the concern is. Take a focused picture of the entire receipt and attach it to the report. The end user can zoom in and read everything, if it is in focus. Being the receipt is rectangular, there will be a background.

I highly recommend holding onto the first receipt the server provides. If you let them take if back when they process the payment, you risk not receiving it back; then having to ask for it, or worse forgetting it. You must submit the itemized receipt. I write down my tip amount, even if it was cash, to assure the maximum reimbursement.

Oh, and do not forget the GeoVerify code.

I completed a shop for SeeLevel and the receipt was barely readable. I took a pic of it, uploaded it to my computer, and attached it to my report. Twice they asked me to resubmit the receipt. No number of resubmissions will make the ink darker on the receipt. The restaurant should have changed their tape earlier in order to print a readable receipt. I even offered to USPS mail the receipt or fax it. Instead, I got an email today stating that my shop had been cancelled! I am out $30. No more MS with this company.
When I get a lightly printed receipt, I make a copy of it but I set the copier to darker copy. That usually turns the writing into readable darker print.
When I use my printer to scan receipts, the background is the lid of the printer. When I take a pic of the receipt, the background is the table, counter, bedspread, etc. That's what they want to see.

It's not time consuming. I take the pic, click share, and up load it to my cloud.

The survey allows for additional close up pics to be submitted. Did you take advantage of the additional pictures slots?

That's right: you take a pic of the entire receipt, and then up close pics of the top and bottom. All three can be submitted.

I can convert a scanned receipt into any file format I need to: JPEG, PNG, GIF, PDF. To actually tell me I can't scan the receipt is silly. What MF does for some clients is that the order number is entered as part of the shop report and then the client can electronically validate based on that. I don't get why SeeLevel can't do this as well. At least one of my phones cannot take very good receipt pictures, and I hate submitting sloppy receipts.
I haven't picked up this particular shop but I do shop this MSC. it is so easy to take a pic with my phone and upload it I don't know why anyone would use another method. Is it because people don't have smartphones?

When I do ANY visit the first thing I do is take a pic of my receipt then email it to myself. This way if I lose the receipt I still get paid
