Coyle opportunities?

A few questions for those who do shops for them. Why is it when I put in just my zip code in their filter I get opportunities not only from my area but ones from places like Abu Dabi? If I put in just my state, it shows shops only in my state not from all over but zip code is a whole matter. Also I clicked on a telephone reservation opportunity and the page that came up said "Alexandra Cummings returned to you." and it gave a date and time. It was also in a bright pink color like it was an alert of some kind. As this is not my name, any idea what this might mean? My last question has to do with their restaurant surveys. It looks like they have a lot of fine dining restaurants that pay a fee plus reimbursement. But the surveys have a huge number of questions (I do like that they put this information right out front before you accept the assignment). Are the surveys mostly simple answers, or are they a lot of narrative? Most importantly are the fees worth the effort on the surveys?

Alexandra Cummings is the editor that returned it to you. I would open it and see what needs fixing.

You do not have to answer every question with a comment, only the no or NA answers need to have a comment, and they don't want complete sentences (I know, weird right?) but only 3-5 words. However, they want a very detailed summary written in a specific manner. They have a reference manual link on the website you should have handy while doing your reports. As far as the value of the fine dining shops, it depends on the individual. The locations in my area are 40 miles away. I have a hard time going to these restaurants without going over the reimbursement and usually I go over both the fee and the reimbursement. I don't do them often, only occasionally due to distance and the out-of-pocket expense. But, in order to qualify for hotel shops, you generally have to do a certain amount of restaurant and/or phone shops first.

Oh, I just reread your post and you wrote that you clicked on an opportunity...so you haven't completed any shops for them yet? Okay so that's weird that you got the alert when you clicked on it. I have no idea why.
For the first question; Put both your state and ZIP in to get accurate matches

For everything else; Please read the resource center (Its the bottom right link on Shopmetrics when you are logged in)
The search is a function of Shopmetrics not knowing some foreign country zip codes. If Shopmetrics does not know where something is it assumes it could possibly be within your search area.

Steve's advice was spot on, although for me I just put the state I'm interested in (this is true for all Shopmetrics sites). I'm pretty familiar with geography so I usually know where everything I see is.

The expect tons of narrative, to the point of wanting to know every persons description and every work said. I will never understand why they don't just do video shops, but the dining shops will take you hours and hours to complete and be sent back multiple times. I swore them off after only one visit.

But if you're in CA the results can be overwhelming to sort through for some companies. The ZIP helps to narrow it down.
For one of their dining shops, there is narrative/detail for almost each of the questions, but that is what they want. It does take time and if each question is answered the way it is suppose to be, then you won't get any questions asked by them.

True, if you're looking for a very specific place. I shop differently than most people though. Since I travel so much I am usually looking for specific shops along a route as opposed to any shops in a specific area.

For instance you might check Coyle for any shops located in Miami if that's where you were going. I, on the other hand, might look for any instance of a specific hotel brand in the entire state to see if I'm passing it, since I would rarely go to Miami and not travel through most of the state.

Yes; And another option that I like with Shopmetrics is that you can also limit it down to a particular client in your search. When they had the large hotel brand last year, it was easy to see all hotels by that brand in a particular state....

When I'm looking for travel opportunities, I will often look for a particular hotel brand worldwide to see where I might want to go next.
I love that option as well. One of the many reasons Shopmetrics is my favorite platform.

I haven't seen all the Shopmetrics companies using the feature. It would be nice if they did.

Thanks everyone for all of your information!!! I'm going to have to think about these and it's good to know in advance. There do seem to be a lot of opportunities within 25 miles. It's just a matter of whether all the work is worth it.

It's worth it if you want a chance to unlock really, really nice hotel/resort opportunities.

I agree with Arabrowneyes. I found the restaurant shop to require too much narrative to be worth the fee. The narrative is ill-defined and the editor, whom I felt sympathy for, had to ask me a long list of leading questions to try to elicit the sentences they needed. I won't lie and pretend to remember at exactly what time I got up to visit the restroom. Too bad, I liked the restaurant so much.

On the contrary, there are very clear examples of what's required in their resource center.

I agree that the narrative requirements can be excessive, but it seems the you were perhaps ill-prepared. If you know it's a requirement, you simply take a note of the time when you are in the restroom. That's one of the simplest tasks required.
