EPMS Released My Social Security Number To A Total Stranger

I received a letter from Joanna Ellis at EPMS - Ellis Partners Management Solutions. The letter is dated February 2017. It says EPMS accidentally sent my tax form 1099 to another shoppers address. Please note it says to another shopper (not some random unknown person).

The letter goes on to apologize and offer me a free year of credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Experian. Am I the only one? I searched and cannot find any threads about this. DID ANYONE ELSE RECEIVE A LETTER? There is more to this story but I will start here.

Thanks for sending the link. I missed the previous conversation. Relieved to know I was not singled out. Angry about EPMSs very casual attitude toward the situation. I'm going to take further action elsewhere.

Just wondering if anyone had any fall out from the incident? I had to cancel one credit card (fraudulent charges appeared) around the time of this incident. But cannot be totally sure it was related. Did everyone sign up for the free credit monitoring service? And that should have been for LIFE....not just for 12 months.
Not from EPMS but my dentist got hacked and sent letters offering free credit monitoting for a year.
It's worth pointing out that they contacted you with the mistake, admitted fault and apologized. I'm not saying that this makes it "okay," but all companies make mistakes from time to time and it shows a certain amount of class for them to reach out to you and own up to it.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
You just received the letter? I was also affected, but I received my letter in February. I authored the post that Chris posted the link to.

What further action are you taking?

Actually quite a few of us got the letter so I'm sure there were others who don't frequent this forum.

I hope the "further action" is not an attempt at a some type of class action lawsuit.

It's very unfortunate that it happened, and I'm not minimizing the error, but does it help at all knowing that someone like yourself, another shopper, likely received your 1099? It's wasn't a hack, it was human error. As mentioned above, there was notifcation and free credit monitoring for a year. Ellis is not obligated to offer that.

For contrast, when the Federal government personnel records were hacked a few years ago, they sent out a letter and suggested using the free annual report to monitor your accounts. And that was in response to a malicious event.

Has anyone noticed activity on their account since February?
Being they know whom they sent the form too, if you see any fraudulent activity then they can supply the recipients information to an official investigation.

What would that do?

@ChrisCooper - Is there a backstory here? Do you work for EPMS? Sounds like it.
@MSNinja - No Judge Judy. Why take small steps when you can take big steps.

My original post spoke of taking further action. I was previously a successful entrepreneur in the rental housing/apartment industry. Big trade show coming up next Summer. Perfect time to re-enter the market. My OP said there is more to the story but I won't reveal anything further. Your feedback was as expected. LOL

This happens everywhere. It's life. They appologized and offered solution. Snap out of it, you will save yourself time and energy.

If you prefer to play games, please do so elsewhere. If you have something to say, just say it.

Sorry, the OP. I'm responding on my tablet and saw the quote without realizing it wasn't the actual post.

I think the general consensus was as per @MFJohnston .....drop the subject. Just accept the apology and keep your mouth shut.
