Travel Transportation Shops

I'm interested in traveling more the later half of this year. I'm signed up with close to 40 MSCs companies but am specifically looking for travel transportation shops.

I've done shops for SQM and Ath Power and would like to know which other companies I should register with? I'm particularly looking for rail shops.

The Amtrak shops are done by a very small cadre of shoppers. More shoppers are only added (by invitation) if/when one decides to stop or (rarely) one screws up enough to be dropped. Since the only passenger rail (long distance) in the US is Amtrak, we cannot name the MSC.

Since the trips are out-and back on next return train, they really do not help fund your vacations. BUT, if you love train travel, they can be nice.

Hi Wale,

I didn't specify whether long distance or local, and have no travel preference that's why I wrote rail. Can you edit your post in case someone wants to name MSC that offers transportation shops.
Even if the name were given it would do no good. If you are determined to find out who (I was) then a bit of internet sluething will lead you to it. I think it took me about an hour of research on here and other places to figure out who. I then emailed a scheduler I had worked with at that company and asked him. He forwarded my interest to the scheduler that handles a lot of their off the board projects who gave me a very nice reply back. Basically you have to live within 1 hour of one of 6 or 7 cities and his standard practice is to email eligible shoppers when there is an opening in their area.

Most transportation shops I've seen (not just trains) have been quick turn-arounds. I've expressed my great wish to be able to stay a couple hours at least at my rail destination, but they really want the fast turn. Once, I saw some friends who lived near the train station for one hour. They were very confused.

That said, if you find the rail MSC, ask to be put on their list of people to consider if someone cancels. That's how I ended up being the go-to person at my hub.

I do.
Since the rails shops are usually cash integrity shops and rely on the client getting tips about suspicious activity, the client wants us on the train carrying the employee(s) who may be causing issues. We never know which of the 2 trains they may be on, or anything that would describe them. But we are alerted to specific behaviors that require our special attention if they are observed on either leg of the trip. Some of those make for interesting reading, I must say.

Removing the Amtrak name would not solve the issue of ICAs because I clearly am discussing US rail travel so everyone would know the client.

As for long haul buses in the US, I have never seen a shop where the shopper actually takes the bus very far; and most shops do not have the shopper ever boarding a bus.

YMMV

There's the Marc, NJ Transit, BART, Metro-North, all rail services I have used...As far as the bus anything longer than 4 hours is long in my opinion....and thanks for the info...I've read that before. I know all about that specific shop requirement except for who shops it...sad smiley
Then do some research. I gave you a huge hint if you were paying attention.

I think that you hinted towards the wrong company????
I was offered this gig (Amtrak) and didn't go for it.
If you already do SQM shops, then you have the best bus one going. For the other major carrier, you couldn't pay me enough to do that one.

ETA: Thanks for the tip, bgriffin. I'm at a major hub and will email her.

Perhaps I did hint at the wrong company. Or it sounds like it based on iShop's post.
