There is a legitimate company name Mintel. A common twist the scam artists use is to take the name of a real company so if the victim does just a little research they are led to believe the scam is on the up and up.

Like every other legitimate business in the known universe, Mintel does not pay people before work is completed. When getting offers like that you need to be realistic. How many jobs pay $160 to $320 an hour and what type of training would be required to command that pay?

I can't believe there are people who still fall for this BS. I'm afraid it's a sad commentary on our education system and lack of critical thinking instruction. sad smiley

What's done is done. An egg cracked cannot be cured.
There are 3 kinds of lies. Lies, Damn lies, and statistics.
Also, Mintel has a warning on their site about these sorts of scams. So if the OP checked the Mintel site, there would be fair warning not to deposit any such check. Sounds like OP at least got helpful advice from the bank and did not deposit the check.
The only problem with blaming it on the education system is the victims run the range of ages of 20 somethings to 80 somethings. I attended public schools somewhere in that range and was taught critical thinkingsmiling smiley

And the IRS wants me to meet them at the bank parking lot to give them $8,000 cash for back taxes I owe...

PT Barnham was right.
Sounded to good to be true but hey it sounded good ... I should have known better myself.especially when i got that large check in the mail for $2350 .they had me fooled until i got that large check .i was like no way this ia real ..& funny thing is the whole process of them emailing & texting me they never mentioned anything bout me having to deposit this money in my account i only found out after i received the large check in the mail.& the letter that came with it that had poor grammar ..i even called the credit union that was listened on the check & she told me that the credit union was real business & that they had received several checks from this scam ..she said it is to be beleived that the name they had on the bottom of the check had cashed a check with them before & somehow they beleive that this scam got hold of the check & reprinted them .. I gave her the check # & she is sending an envelope to me to send them the check ..
You should actually go and sign up with Mintel.com. Their jobs are few and far between in my area, but they are some of the highest pay per hour. They don't pay you in advance, though ;-).

I love the REAL Mintel. I have done some pretty easy and straightforward shops for them where I averaged about $20 per hour. They paid about two weeks after I completed the assignments, which is fast in the MS world. Morris, consider yourself lucky that your bank recognized it was fake before you incurred some real trouble.
My cousin is a banker. She sees this regularly. It's frightening.
