Not confirming being the backup Trend Source

I was the backup for an assignment where I was available for the original days but now they've offered the job to me and I'm no longer available until after the 26th. Trend Source sent me an email to confirm the shop but do I need to do something to decline? Or do I just ignore the email and it should go to someone else automatically?

How do you know that it will affect your shopper status to not accept a shop, sojo? Have you ever worked for Trendsource? That absolutely makes no sense, because if you were out working and another shopper confirmed a shop before you had a chance to do it, it should not affect your status whatsoever. If, on the other hand, you confirmed a shop and then did not complete it, THAT would affect your status.
Trendsource is easy to get ahold of by phone. I would do that, then no worries. They are a VERY good company.
A shop goes to the backup shopper when the original shopper flakes. The backup shopper at some point has read the requirements of the shop and has abided by the guidelines to be a backup shopper. The backup shopper has agreed to perform the shop if the original shopper flakes. Why else would one sign up to be a backup shopper?

When the back up shopper becomes the shopper and flakes. The MSC now has two flakes.

If the original shopper flakes and the back up shopper flakes, as a MSC, who should remain in high regards to the MSC?-------->the third Shopper smiling smiley or the Shopper who finally does the shop. smiling smiley

Maybe a better question would be---------->what is the definition or responsibility of a backup shopper? And how does it reflect on their status with the MSC.confused smileyconfused smiley

TS is not the only MSC asking for backup Shoppers. smiling smiley

I think you should let them know so they can find a backup for their backup, call the number and use extension 123. As far as they know, you are assigned the shop.
You need to write customer support and tell them you now need to decline. They do depend on you if you sign up as a backup. When they send you the email, just answer your unable to do it as they depend on you to be backup.

No no no that is not how Trendsource operates -- if you put in for the back up shopper you do not have to accept it if it finally comes your way. In fact often if 5 people put in for the back up they send the email to ALL five and whoever confirms first is who gets the job. They do not consider you a flake for declining the offer of back up. It often comes days after the original job was due. I have declined many a back up job and still do a ton of shops for them each month with no problems.

I think they even have a spot on the back up offer that says confirm or decline. In no way does it hurt your standing.

Thanks Liz, that's what I thought.

I have been shopping for them for about 14 years now and I have been the backup shopper that did not accept an assignment many, many times and I am still with them and have no problems getting assigned shops when I want them. If you didn't accept the shop, you didn't "flake" as sojo wrote. A flake is someone who accepts a shop and then doesn't follow through.

I too have shopped for them about that long! I believe for them their definition of being a back up shopper is you have shown interest in being offered the shop if they need a back up. It in no way obligates you to take it. They definitely handle it differently than some other companies and I so appreciate them!

Ok I am procrastinating and if any of you shop for them go into their tab called Resource - it clearly says under back up shopper you may accept or decline.

Now I have to really call it a night.

My take and i will continue doing things the same, is when you signup for backup, you have no idea who else did, you may be the only one. i'd always give them the respect, and tell them if I'm no longer able to do the shop. I hardy ever sign as a backup, but have a few times, especially with Whole foods, which I would do in a heartbeat.

It has been my experience that Trendsource automatically assigns shoppers as a back up. This has happened to me on a number of occasions. It is my understanding that you are under no obligation to work the shop if someone else flakes, but you are offered first shot at it if you do want it. I have been a back up on many an inspection without ever requesting to be.

Shopping up and down the Colorado Rocky Mountain front range.
I have never been assigned as a backup, without assigning to it myself. I have gotten a text or call to see if I could do it.. This thread makes me wonder if different schedulers have their own rules. They are in CA (San Diego) and do tons of work in So.CA. I've worked for them only about 7 years, but this thread leaves me sraching my head.

Trendsource is one of those unique companies in this regard. If you take a shop at base pay and click accept, it's automatically yours. Signed and sealed. If you sign up to be a backup shopper, you have to confirm, decline, or let it go on to the next person. It won't hurt you to ignore it but it's easier to just log in and decline and leave a nice note "thank you for the offer but unfortunately, I am not available for the new dates. I may be available on X dates and you can call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx to confirm if this date becomes available." It works similarly for PAD in that they don't automatically assign you but rather send out "accept or decline" emails to all the folks who put in PAD requests at the reasonable amount for the shop and wait for one to take the bait. Occasionally, you do have a scheduler who will go on and assign you... I have had one or two of those who know I love getting groceries and will grab a grocery shop Mon-Fri on my way home almost 100% of the time. Weekends are a bit harder. I'll often get a quick text or e-mail."sorry for the short notice. I assigned you Mooreshead *or whatever city* for the $25 PAD for tonight. If you need tomorrow instead just shoot me a text or email back" and it will be in my shop log ready to go.
