Maritz Gas station audits

What is the difference between "Audit" and "Mystery shop with reveal" type of shops. I took a "Mystery shop with reveal" type which was paying much less then audit and after accepting it realized they are more or less the same with almost equal amount of work. Thoughts ?

With a "reveal" shop, you will be introducing yourself to the manager/attendant/somebody as a shopper and sharing results.... With a straight mystery shop, you will leave the location as a regular customer and the employees will not know they were shopped until they get the report days (weeks?) later.

Thanks @MFJohnson for your reply. As far as our(mystery shoppers) efforts/time spent are concerned doing shop, do you see any difference. From my point of view (looking at documentation) both were equal amount of work from our side.
I have only done mystery shop ones. I would assume that the mystery shop with reveal starts with a ms of the customer service and then follows with a reveal with photos. The audit would be revealed right off the bat.
@AnneAshley has it right.

I've only done mystery shops so far but I am curious too why would the audit shop pay more?

A LOT of people don't like to reveal themselves. I, on the other hand, prefer it.

@Hoju
What is the total time allowed in the reveal audits? There are a bunch that rarely get done in my area and collect bonuses.... I prefer to not reveal myself (as a shopper), but, for the right price, I just might make an exception....

Allowed? I don’t think there’s a max. How long it takes depends on the client and your abilities and experience. It takes me about 20 min per location.

The mystery shop with reveal pays less because it includes purchase reimbursement. Depending on the client they typically pay for around 2 gallons of gas and $1-$2 for a purchase in the store. They take about the same amount of time, but sometimes 5–10 mins more on site than the straight audits Maritz offers.
I haven't seen the pure mystery shops that pay more than reveal shops. I have done a few non-reveal and found them quick and easy but pay only $9 or $10. I much prefer the reveal shops as the free gas runs 4 cars in my family. While it is not actually income it certainly eliminates an expense.
While we're on the subject-
To the person who scored the last 4 audits in the for one particular client in the entire country for not much less than $2000- You're welcome. I set the bar high for you and REALLY didn't want to do them anyway.

Prob not. Mostly just pointing out that revealed audits can pay bigly.
I spent the day in heavy negotiations with Maritz trying to make this work out. They had to finish off the year strong with one client and almost didn't. I'm sure those last four locations cost them dearly, but not as dearly as I was requesting (and they were seriously considering).

I love the end of the month and the negotiations but I have never approached $2000. I've gotten as much as $150 for a remote station in conjunction with other shops. But $2000, never. I better re-read those books on negotiating.
Maybe I'm going a bit off topic here; I like the revealed audits as they (to me anyway) pay more in stress relief in the long run.
Although it might be $5 gas, 2 gallons of gas or an inside purchase of $1 or $2 in reimbursement on top of the shop pay, I still feel like I'm ahead at the end of the day. I always come home with things I would never elsewise purchase along with a full tank of gas.
But, really, my gas is more than reimbursed for traveling to areas where there might be a good ethnic grocery (good bread, cheese, olives, etc), an orchard, maybe a wine shop that I know sells reasonably priced varieties or a nice drive in parts unknown.
When its warm, I can stop at a beach town and enjoy the sun for a few hours, do some writing, have a coffee or something refreshing in the town and be on my way.
The bonuses are great and often, they are showing up more and more. I really don't negotiate, I just watch the postings and have my own algorithm for determining their acceptability.
