List of hard & easy dining shops

Dining assignments can be very easy or a tornado destroying your day for little pay. So let's ID some good and bad jobs.
To me, Grade A "Good" might be a short report that nets $15 or more hourly. Grade B "Mixed Results" would be Coyle's extremely detailed, long reports for all dining, but the hourly earnings may still be $15 - $25+. Problems with Grade C "Bad" might include high rejection rate, reimbursement problems, low pay for lengthy surveys, etc., etc. If your definitions vary, just say why a restaurant report is good, mixed or bad.
For my reasons above, Grade A: includes a Mexican chain from Reality Based Group, BJ's and Bush's Chicken. Also Jack in the Box and Jet Pizza (but I dislike the food at both).
How would you grade restaurants or their mystery shopping companies?

I love The Greene Turtle shops! The reimbursement is low ($20), but I easily come under that during happy hour. The fee is $10. The reports are very easy, just over an hour to complete. The MSC pays like clockwork.

The Fridays shops are reimbursement only, but worth it. The report is simple and the restaurant is walking distance.

Of course, there is always Five Guys. Simple report and full reimbursement.

I think you have to look at more than just the immediate profit in terms if pay for amount of work when considering the value of dining assignments; Getting food and experiences that are both desirable and healthy, for instance.

Every dollar you earn on FF pizza and burger shops may cost you just as much in terms of your health. Getting a meal you might otherwise choose to buy for yourself not only earns you the fee, but offsets your cost of purchasing the meal, which in turn may function like the equivalent of pay.
I find Arby's to be one of the few restaurant shops I will accept without a bonus because the reports are some of the most simple I have encountered and the food is reasonably healthy and edible; therefore, I consider the reimbursement as part of the payment. Sonic reports are a bit more involved, and the allowed menu items for purchase are all unhealthy and often not particularly good, so I only do those when they are bonused and it is all about the $$$. I do love the diet cherry limeades (I can have as many as I want) and shakes (have to stop myself from ordering these due to my health). Five guys reports are about twice as long as sonic and three times longer than Arby's, so despite the food generally being fresh and tasty, I will not do them without a bonus. These are the only fast food locations that are abundant and common in my region based on the MSC's I am signed up with.

I totally agree, and those shops where there area loyalty points or programs are even more 'valuable' as I can reach rewards faster. I actually LOVE Blaze pizza shops. I can put whatever I want on the pizza. It is a thin crust that contains no added sugar. I can LOAD up on the spinach and veggies and not put a single drop of cheese on it if I don't want to. Add in the 'flames' I earn and I can then get free pizza when I want it. I also like that they offer lower calorie drinks that are NOT diet (ie fake sugar)
I love Blaze, too, but the reports (timing portion) deter me from accepting these shops. No thank you.
Arooga's take-out shops are great! The food is delicious, and the report is easy. I'm doing my first dine-in shop this month, and the reimbursement amount seems more than adequate for two. It looks like they've removed the bar portion of the regular dining shop (I think you had to sit at the bar and have a drink, then go to the dining room to eat, but you don't have to do that now). So I'm hoping that one won't be too bad. They still have the bar/dinner shops, but I don't think I'd do those.

Hoss's Steak & Seahouse shops are fast becoming a favorite of mine. Easier than, e.g., BWW, with many healthy choices on the menu (and a great salad bar), and simple report. But I think that chain is pretty regional. BTW, what happened to the BWW shops????

Glad to see that Green Turtle is shopped. One is opening up later this year, about 3 minutes from my house!

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
BJ's Brewery has (for me) the best food, big selection, and easy reports and enough $$ to eat a nice meal, being I can go alone. I also enjoy Red Robin, can do it alone, and being a salad lover, and an occasional burger person, works for me. Eurth Cafe is another favorite, with a nice reimbursement and report fee.

I'd love to try a BJ's shop. There's one that comes up regularly on my board, but it's about half an hour from here. I have to be in that town for a client meeting every so often and am trying to pick up a shop and schedule a meeting on the same day. No luck so far, especially because the curbside shops are the ones that hang around, and I don't want to do a take-out shop where I have to drive 30 minutes home.... sad smiley

The BJ's shops are hard to get in my area. You have to apply and specify the day you want to do the shop. Then it sits for a week or longer before the application is accepted and the BJ's is assigned or the application is just deleted with no notice. I'm guessing after getting applications, the scheduler decides what day she wants it done and who hasn't done it lately. Of course, if you live in an area of few shoppers (I don't - there are way too many shoppers near me!), this would not be a problem and maybe you would be scheduled quicker. I've also noticed if I apply for one of the less-popular take out shops they are assigned faster.
Speaking about the scheduling of BJ's, there was never rotation, I notice this year that has changed. I was just refused saying I'm on rotation....and we also have many shoppers, more each day. I used to be the one that got everything, this month was the first time I was refused, last month i got the two I requested, no more....

There are a lot of dining shops near me but I have mostly done fast food. Has anyone done O'Charleys? Are the Texas Steak House reports hard?

I have done O'Charley's once and found the food pretty blah. It also reimbursed in the form of an e-gift card rather than money. I still haven't used it.
I absolutely hate the O’Charleys shops, the report isn’t bad I just hate the fact they pay with an e-gift card. I did one once before realizing how they paid and said never again. I just like to use my money how/where I want..not be forced to go back there again but that’s just my opinion. The Texas Roadhouse shops are pretty easy and I love that restaurant so I’d definitely give them both a shot and see what you think!
I did one O’Charleys shop last year. Report was fairly easy. I haven’t used the gift card yet. I would prefer money instead.

Susie shopping the Columbus Ohio area and outlying communities.
I found the Skyline Chili shops to be good. My bad would be the Blaze pizza shop — those timings!

Anybody done the MOD Pizza shops? They have several locations in my area, but I haven't done any. Seems too much to bother with for the base flat fee, but they sometimes get bonused up a few dollars. I wouldn't mind trying the pizza, but wouldn't mind making a handful of dollars while doing so, either!

SeeLevel has a coffee client. Two coffees, 5 minutes visit, easy report. Only pays $7 but it's easy and it covers coffee for me and a friend. Plus, I get the rewards.

Airport fast food shops are awesome. Quick, easy, pays at least $15 and I don't truly have to eat the food.

Coyle has cafeterias that are located in business office buildings and museums. The surveys are much shorter than their restaurant surveys but pay the standard rate. They all have great food with generous reimbursement considering it's lunch.

I enjoy the food and experience at Mod Pizza but the shop is definitely borderline as too much work for the money. $15 base fee would be nice but the locations in my area never get that high. I am very close to 2 of them and I do them with my family and they have to order their own pizza so I am always out of pocket on these. As far as pizza shops go I would rather do these and be down $12 or so for a meal for 4 than making $5 or breaking even on Papa John's shops.
I as well do the Mod Pizza shop near my town...I have to eat anyway and like their thin crust and healthy choices.
They don't give you enough to buy a coke so (sssh), I BRING MY OWN, no one pays attention. Have never and would never do Papa Johns, so not about the money just getting a healthy pizza I really enjoy. BJ's has 1/2 off their huge pizza Monday nights, not a fan of thick crust, so Mod and RevPizza are the only ones I eat, both up my alley....we can't always make $, sometimes eating healthy is better than a couple dollars.

Easy: Smashburger, El Pollo Loco (The new report has taken all writing out of it - criminally easy)....there are a few others but I'd rather not say them because I like doing them, "stealing" money, and not having more "competition" for them.

Hard: ANYTHING Coyle does (I am signed up with them and not only have never done anything for them I never will); Jiffy Lube (Not hard but not worth it when you factor in the fee we get for the amount of work we have to do although I get them so I can help my family save money and get free oil changes)
Easy: BJs - even after having done many of these, I still get nervous that I've left something out because they're so easy.
Arbys and Five Guys - I like the food, so worth it.
Casino restaurants - for the most part, they have excellent food.

Not Worth It:
Potbelly -- the report isn't too awful difficult, but I made <$1 on the last one due to ordering requirements.
Olive Garden - It seems that someone in our party ends up sick every single time we eat here, so no thanks.
Applebees - you're basically working for the food, and the food isn't good.
Coyle - although I like their other shops, the amount of work required for their restaurants just isn't worth it.

There's one that's been put up to $17 in my general area, but it's about a 25-minute drive one way! I have to be in that town every couple of weeks, but of course, I don't have a trip coming up within the time frame the shop needs to be done! They start at $12 in my local ones, and once in awhile might go up a couple of bucks. If the one nearest me gets bonused up a little, I might try it.

I've done several MOD shops. You're correct that there's not much money left over after you buy the required item, but I really like their pizza so it's worth it for me.

Based on the "reviews" here, I really gotta do a BJ's shop! Might pick up the dining decoy one and take my 21-year-old son. He's as obsessive as I am, so he makes a good shopping partner--LOL.

Hi Birdy,

For The Greene Turtle, the rotation is 60 days. You can do a bar shop this month, and a dining room shop next month. Sign up for the Turtle Rewards. You get a $10 certificate every 200 points. Tuesdays are double points, and appetizers are half price before 6pm or after 10pm M-F.

I haven't seen the BWW shops since September. The scheduler doesn't work there any more. I hope the program comes back because I enjoyed the shops.

You can make healthy choices at any restaurant. You can control your portions at any meal. You can ask for no/low salt when a restaurant meal is being prepared. You always have choices when it comes to your health.
