If you received a cashier's check in advance, and I'm basing that on your post on another thread, then it is a scam. There is a legitimate company name Helion, but no company would ever assume the risk of sending a complete stranger money up front then hoping they will perform the work. It is common for scammers to use the names of real mystery shopping companies to add an air of legitimacy to their scam. The hope is the recipient will not do sufficient research.

They told me to deposit it into my account then when the funds are available to go purchase 2 iPhones from an apple store and the remaining 300$ is my pay.
They also gave me a list of things to look for at the store as far as quality and customer service
Doesn't change a thing, it's still a scam. Your bank will release the funds in just a few days, you will spend some money, send off some plus the phones to this "company" then a few weeks later your bank will let you know the check was fraudulent. You will be left on the hook for all the money and could even be prosecuted.

It's a common scam and people sadly fall for it all of the time. We are mystery shoppers who have done thousands of shops and we don't get paid for work before we do the job. Think about it: why would someone send a very large check to someone who hasn't done any work for them? Have you ever worked a job where you got paid in advance for the work? It doesn't happen. The check is fake. Your bank won't know it right away, but after about 10 days the check will bounce from the other bank it was drawn on (fake account) and then you will be in a lot of trouble financially and possibly legally for passing a fake check.
So what will happen if I've already deposited one and just waiting on it to clear? This the second one I've received this week and I still have all the instructions to go with both of them. Should I tell my bank to cancel the first one?
OMG yes contact your bank immediately as soon as they are open!!!! Ask to speak with the branch manager and he will explain this to you. Hopefully you can resolve this quickly.
Run, don't walk, to the bank as soon as they open. If you let them know you were the victim of a scam maybe they will waive the charges when it bounces. At least if you let them know up front you are less likely to be prosecuted for passing a fraudulent check.

Thank you so much. I'm so happy that I asked this question and you responded. I have to wait until Monday now. Is there lawyers that I can contact if the bank don't understand? I can't afford to pay the bank back 6,000$ and my social security checks get sent to my bank direct deposit. That's the only money I get a month to pay my bills.
I'm scared now because my checks from social security comes to my bank and I can't afford for the bank to keep that money because me and my kids will be homeless.
Can you please tell me a legit mystery shopper site that I can sign up for? I'm a single mother of 4 and my youngest is 6 months. My husband got killed 3 months ago in a car accident and all I receive is 750$ a month and really need extra income
Did you withdraw any of the money or send any to the scammer? If so, you are in trouble.

If you simply deposited the check and did nothing, waiting for it to clear, you should be ok as long as you talk to your bank right away. I would look online and see if there’s a number you can call right now to reach someone.
Did you withdraw any of the money and send it to these people? If you have not taken any money out yet, the only fee the bank would assess would be for the returned check. I'm guessing that wouldn't be more than $35 to $50. If the bank doesn't waive it, there isn't much you can do.

If you didn't spend any of the money from the check you deposited and you explain what happened to the branch manager, you should be okay.
No I haven't bought the iPhones I'm still waiting on the cashier's check to clear. I deposited it Wednesday and it hasn't cleared and I received another one today which is why I'm alarmed and got on this site to question the company
At the bottom of this page there is a list of companies you can sign up with to be a shopper. They are legitimate companies.
Considering your situation, mystery shopping may not be the best choice for you right now. If you would like to give it a try, your first step should be to visit the New Mystery Shoppers section of the forum and read everything written in the first dozen or so threads.

The person never asked me to send them any money they just told me to wait until the funds are available then go to the Apple store and purchase 2 iPhone X phones then they gave me a number to text once I've made the purchase.
Yeah, the scammers usually start harassing people to hurry up and do something before the check clears (because of course it won't clear). Get in front of the branch manager first thing Monday morning. I am glad you did not spend any of that money.
Thanks. I did this job before when I lived in Illinois but they always sent a real check never a cashier's check.
Lisa's right, especially given the fact that unless you have someone who can watch your kids for you, you can't do many shops. Most MSCs want shoppers to do the shop unaccompanied by anyone and absolutely no kids because they are too distracting. There are a lot of details you must capture for the shop.
I am so happy that I didn't spend any of it either. I'm also going to report them to the FTC
I would add that your bank likely has a number you can call 24/7 to let them know about fraudulent activity. I would call them immediately. The sooner you are able to let your bank know of the issue, the more they can help you.

Mystery Shopping is very legitimate. However, there are LOTS of scammers attempting to take advantage of unsuspecting folks. If you want to look more into it, I strongly concur with @LisaSTL: Read the New Shoppers section of this forum. I also second @JASFLALMT - take a look at the companies listed with the link at the bottom of the page.

I really want to thank all of you for your help. I'm praying to God that this works out well with my bank.
