How young can you start?

for my 17 year old, drum corps season is now over and real life is knocking hard on his door. He has the whole school year to work and there's nothing more flexible than what we do. The problem is that from what it appears, MSC's aren't allowing anyone under 18 to work for them. Do we know of anyone that will allow a responsible 17 year old with reliable transportation to take shops?

Under 18, he can’t sign a contract with an MSC. All he could really do is age compliance shops with you. But that would at least give him the experience and you could let him do the reports.
Depending on his skill sets, there are crowdsource jobs available on the internet. The pay is pathetic, but it’s flexible.
Troy makes a good point. Under age 18 cannot make an enforceable contract without some sort of court approval in most jurisdictions. (Standard question on Real Estate licensing exams on contract law.)

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Which group did he march with this year? My youngest marched with Cascades for two years, but took this year off..

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.

He’s a Spartan. This is his second year. I was just talking to someone from Cascades this year. Nice bunch of people.
I guess he has to wait a few months before starting work.

He could always try to land a W-2 job in the meantime. Especially one that offers tuition assistance. Tried to convince my daughter to do that, but for a person who survives on tacos she doesn’t want to serve them smiling smiley

He's actually going into his junior year of high school. Tuition assistance would be great in a couple years, though!

Most employers I’ve seen who have a tuition assistance program don’t offer it until the employee’ one year anniversary.
I have some dandelions that need pulled. I can't seem to get any of the kids around here (even young ones) to do it for $10/hr.

Using a tablet sucks but for the picking dandelions I used to get a nickel for each one I picked. Cleaned up the neighborhood payed the younger kids 2 it 3 cents.
