Just one....just one MSC

Hi there,

I'm looking for one, just one MSC, that would have decent scheduling, decent proofreaders, and decent pay. Any recommendations? I really don't think one exists.

Yikes! There's a wonderful rainbow just southeast a bit; why don't you and I do a roadtrip and go find that Pot O' Gold at the end of it?

I think (and I’m fairly new) that personality is important. Some MSC’s are extremely strict- and expect shops to be performed exactly the same way every single time. Other MSC’s go with the flow when things change or make adjustments to the guidelines to change up the way shoppers can approach the shop.
People are the same way. My cousin expects everything to go exactly according to plan and will not tolerate deviations, whereas I tend to go with the flow, and can perform on the fly.
Maybe look for companies that match your personality.

Trying to learn from all of these rockstars.
I'll take my tongue out of my cheek for a second, and say "try Marketforce". If you're willing to do the jobs at base pay (as I did when I was new), you can self assign. I've done hundreds of shops for them, and can count the e-mails from editors ("quality control"winking smiley on the fingers of one hand.

OTOH, that 8 hour deadline is a killer -- sometimes the shops I do are 8 or more hours from home, and there's no way to report on the road.

I personally make what I consider very good money with them. But I NEVER take shops at base pay, either -- mostly because the closest one is an hour's drive away from me.
I have shopped for 10+ years. There are no MSCs with good scheduling, good proofreaders, and good pay. Marketforce is probably the biggest, but not the best...done hundreds of shops with them aldo, but self deactivated about a year ago.
Informa, Servimer, Person to Person

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I think we all have different points of view when it comes to these types of experiences. Personally, if I had to work for one MSC for the rest of my life, it would probably be Maritz. I doubt anyone else would say that. I know probably 80% of their schedulers and several supervisors and managers by name now and we have a great relationship. I know what to expect from them and they know what to expect from me. There is no other MSC that I can say that about. Not yet, at least.

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
Actually, Market Force reports can be submitted while on the road through their Eyes: On app.
Ms. Baker, too bad you self deactivated yourself from Market Force since I find that MF comes the closest to fulfilling this requirement.
This is a really tough question because it also heavily depends on the shops available in your area. I'd say your best bet is to post a thread on where you are from and ask if anyone here is from the same area and who they like working for. There are sooooooooo many MSCs out there and some are more prevelant in certain areas than others.

I can think of two such companies. I also believe that in both cases, every shopper has been with the company over 10 years, possibly 20. Small boutique companies.

My absolute favorite just allows me to call and let them know which days I have off from work. Then, they offer hotels with travel and nice fees. I hope that they never retire. The editor will tell me, "Going forward, do it this way." Got it. Next time it's their way. Well, sometimes, they change it up on me, but it has never been an issue either way. Restaurants have guidelines, but no limits.

I called the other day at 1:00 PM, per their request. The owner was busy, so the call was short. They texted me later and apologized three times. Not necessary, but sweet nonetheless.

So, such dream companies do exist, but they are not adding shoppers at this time.
So far this company for me has been Reality Based Group. Their reports are easy, guidelines simple, the shops in my area are fun, easy, and come around every month. They pay on time and the schedulers are super nice and understanding. I think the pay is decent and they definitely bonus.
