If you are this upset about not getting a payment by the 4th (date of the OP) that you were due on the 1st, you aren't going to make it long as an IC. Some MSC's you never have to worry about, ever. Others can be late from time to time, and this was not excessive. Having worked in Accounts Receivable for a hotel chain for 12 years before I started doing this, you should count your blessings how reliable some MSC's are, because in the real world, companies are going to be late from time to time, too. It's how they manage their expenses. We weren't just going to cancel their account because they missed a payment by four days.
I wouldn't use the payments from the MSC's that tend to be two weeks late as the money you rely on for major bills. Use the MSC's that pay like clockwork for that. Also, consider how reliable they pay when accepting jobs in the first place. Just like the accounts I dealt with, some you know will pay promptly right away, and others you know you probably won't.
For ATH, this is a somewhat common that they are late, and that should always be considered when factoring whether you take one of their job, or the somewhat longer, similar pay job of another MSC that you never have to worry about. Given the type of client ATH specializes in, it doesn't surprise me that they do this, they know contractor pay doesn't have interest or fees for lateness associated with it, and treat it accordingly.
