Me too! Martinis (and champagne) are not allowed at table but if I read the disclosures correctly, there are no restrictions at the bar, which is where I ordered my martini. It makes sense since I’m supposed to note use of the ice scoop and cleaning of the shaker.
Actually, Coyle, or their clients. don't usually allow martinis to be ordered at the bar either. Trust me, I've made that mistake.

Full disclosure, I do consider myself to be a bit of an expert. My first report with Coyle was abysmal, but since then I've never gotten below a 91%. So anyway, I feel qualified to respond the way that I did.

I'm actually glad that you asked this question. I also receive notifications for shops on Coyle, usually about 30-35 minute drive for me and I have been thinking about trying one. However, I also shop with ACL and have been very frustrated with them lately. I complete the long narrative report and I always get an email back asking me about something that wasn't even listed as a requirement in the guidelines. It wouldn't be so frustrating but for no pay and reimbursement only in the majority of the cases, doesn't seem worth it to me. I constantly get text messages, emails, and phone calls from them to complete shops where they falsely advertise saying you can bundle this shop with another and make $95 but you don't make that, you are reimbursed. I have also applied for a shop with them once and was told that they would assign it to me ONLY if I took another shop with it....Umm what???
If you search throughout the forum, they are known for asking shoppers to take on a pizza shop in order to get another 'desirable' shop. Many shoppers here do not like that game. Some shoppers do it. I won't do it.
A coyle shop is usually straightfoward. Report in detail exactly what happened and follow the shop instructions and you should do great.

Yep, I got that treatment before. When there was a new mid-level popular chain in their account, (not Coyle), I signed up. Immediately, I got an email saying that it was one of their desirable new restaurants, that they give it to shoppers who are willing to do other shops they cannot fill. So, I did not respond. Three days later, I was assigned the shop.
More recently, one of their rare $130 restaurant reimbursement showed up. I was asked to do one other shop before he will assign that restaurant to me. After I accepted both, I was asked to take yet another undesirable shop.
And to top it all, no fee for any of the 3 shops.

If I was the client (i.e. the desirable shop) and I found out that the MSC that I hired wanted to bundle my shop with a pizza shop, I wouldn't be too pleased. I wouldn't want a shopper to feel like they have to take another shop to do mine. That is just me. Again, we are IC so we are free to pick and choose what shops we want. I just plain refuse to play their games.
Coyle reports are time consuming and I make sure that I don't have other shops the day after so I can dedicate the whole day to this restaurant report. Reports may not be so difficult after you do few but I find them tedious and I take breaks; that's why it takes me a whole day (or two) to finish a report. I would try one and see how it goes.
I done restaurant shops for both Coyle and ACL, both high-end places and medium-priced ones. I just include every little action that takes place and who did it and when, and I have very little problem with my reports for either company.
Of course, they don't pay a lot, but I don't mind much. I make my money on other shops and use them just to get "discounted" meals at places I want to eat at anyway.
I've done a couple for Sentry with the same results. One completely covered the cost of the meal plus a small fee; one "only" covered $120 (total) of a meal/bar visit that cost me about $240. However, I'd been dying to eat at that place and, essentially, I got to eat there for half-price. I could have eaten for a lot less, but why?
It's true that ACL had me take a pizza shop to qualify for the high-end shop, but I don't mind. I actually got paid more for the fee for the pizza shop than the fee for the steak place. And the pizza was good.

Well, this is a fairly major bummer. Still, no regrets.
Not really. They pepper you with the hard-sell the whole time. It's difficult to relax when your masseuse is constantly telling you how great it is and pitching their package. On top of that, having to fill out a report that's considerably longer than the massage isn't my idea of relaxing. For the price of five 10-minute post office shops, I can get an excellent massage without a lengthy report.@Myrab wrote:

The ACL reports take some time, but I'm one of those anal-retentive weirdos who likes providing an insane level of detail. That said, I find Coyle a little too ... intimidating? to be truly enjoyable. I also have to be wary of having a shop rejected, because under my current circumstances, I truly cannot afford Coyle's kind of meals. And one rejected shop would wipe out the financial benefit of all my other shops for the month.
