Jancyn and shopper name disclosure

I am not sure if this is standard as I have never had this come up. A month or so ago I did a couple property shops for Jancyn. Apparently they turned in my full name and contact information to the client with the shop report. That seemed odd to me.

I've never been asked for my driver's license while shopping a new house. My license is almost always asked for at apartment shops. I submit my report, including the time on site. Daily, the employee I shopped submits the showings to property management/client. It would not be difficult for the client to glean my name from the employee and match it against the shop report.

If the client reveals to the showing agent, who I shopped, that Judy Needsaplace was the shopper, that's another thing.

Curious, how were you made aware that your identity was revealed to the client with your shop?

The property manager that I met with and shopped disputed part of my report. I was sent a copy of her email where she herself said that she was given my full name and contact information.
I would be less than happy and would contact Jancyn. Their ICA states "Jancyn Evaluation Shops agrees to keep the personal identity of the shopper confidential, unless otherwise authorized to do so by shopper."

lisams901 --- great! SO now you go back the MSP and ask them to ask the manager for your full contact information! And in what form was it given to her? (ie - did you fill out form in your own handwriting? or did you verbally tell the manager and she wrote it down? or did the manager take if from your DL's?)

Let us know what MSP and manager come back with please.
Ellis does that. I didn't know until I ran into an apartment rep that I had shopped at a coffee shop. I knew he looked familiar and said hi. He said thank you to me for the good review! I said how did you know that I was a shopper? He said he got his report back with my name on it as a shopper!! It did unnerve me, but it won't keep me from working for Ellis. I like working with them too much. I can see how it might get problemmatic for people to have our names though.

I wonder if they always give the name out. I rarely shop for them, but I did an apartment shop in October (which I haven't been paid for yet, but that's another story). This weekend I have a shop scheduled with the same company, just in a different city. They will have my name on file already since I visited the other city. Won't that automatically give it away then when I walk in?
Some companies network their databases at the local level. Or, employees may talk to employees at sister properties. You need to know what you're walking into. It would be ludicrous for Jancyn to schedule you in light of this situation.

Regarding Jancyn violating their agreement with you, I wouldn't know if they give all reports in their entirety to the property manager. I have had reports questioned and disputed, and have not had reason to believe such, but you have. What if you turn in a really negative report and the agent is steamed and knows where you live. We could play what if all day long, but absolutely should not have to. Identities of a shopper are contractually privileged for good reason.

You need to go on a discovery mission. I wouldn't shop the second property without answers.

I have done a spa shop for Jancyn and before doing it, I knew upfront that, if they wanted to, the spa could go back thru their appointments and determine who I was based on my appointment date and time on the report. They have to give the date and time of the appointment to the client and even if they didn't the client could still figure it out based on the people who performed the services. The only way around that would be to give a false name.

As for apartment shops, I have done numerous shops for different MSP's. Once I did 5 apartment complexes for the same rental company so I don't think name sharing is a problem when it comes to those, but I may be wrong.
webbed124,
Most rental management companies have data bases that share info. Most MSCs that shop apartments will tell you how to use fake names to avoid detection. There is even one rental management company that has a national data base that is keyed to your driviers' license number. You can only ever, ever, ever, do one shop for them! The MSC is trying to get them to purge that data base periodically, but so far they have not done so!

Walesmaven, evidently ad infinitum tracking of prospective renters' movements within properties trumps shoppers' abilities to shop the property, undetected, after a rotation. The client certainly assumes that the MSP has substantial bench strength. Long-time shoppers with a solid history appear to be a forgotten and unappreciated part of the equation.
I think that's total bullcrap. We must never discuss our clients details with anyone, yet, they can give the employee all of our personal information.

Not on my watch...sad smiley
With all the whackos that go postal in the workplace, it is so not cool to be sharing personal shopper info with the client. This is unacceptable.

I've never not been paid by Jancyn, on time and without having to ask.

I had one small issue, just last month. I'd done three $13 shops and one $16 shop. All four were paid at $13. I can easily see how that could be an inadvertent data entry error. I emailed about the missing $3, and it a few days it was sent. And, it only took a few days because a weekend was involved.

I didn't know Ellis confirmed our FULL identity to the target! One client photocopied my ID at the beginning of the shop.

Those $13 shops I quit doing, the P&R is a pain. I always feel they are looking at me a bit odd, even though I have a good story...tongue sticking out smiley
Are there any companies out there that have not been named that reveal this info to the client? Trendsource?

I know a lot of people don't like them, but since you can go back in just a few minutes, I don't mind. In my area, I've only ever had to wait in line once; so the time factor isn't really a big deal. It only adds a few minutes. And, I don't mind being looked at oddly, either; especially if I'm being paid. Ha! smiling smiley

That said, they aren't lucrative enough to do unless it's the one five minutes away from my house, or the one at the shopping center on the edge of town (set up like a small town of it's own) as I often go right by there. Or, the out-of-town ones when on a route there for better paying jobs. They only ever take me a half-hour, unless I accidentally get involved in actually browsing some stuff I'm interested in (heh); and the reports are a piece of cake.

I used to do those when I had a shoe shop and a salsa bar shop in the area.

But for the record, I LOVE that store and the great prices, P&R or notsmiling smiley
I love the store, too! So much stuff, such good prices! That's why sometimes the shops take longer than they'd really need to. smiling smiley

I don't care if they share my info or not with the clients. If you have been nice and fair what do you have to fear? I never beat people up in my reports.

Just on here, right? heehee

Well, at least you get it all out of your system before you write the reports!

I do say more here then I do in my reports. As much as I would like to tell Mcdonalds their french fries taste like wood I am smart enough to know they are much more concerned about how fast my food was served to me then what my expert culinary tastes and opinions are of something they have made billions of dollars selling.

Just a suggestion Freelance....you might want to consider applying the same restraint when posting on the Forum. Personally, I think you are very opinionated and, although I might agree with some of your opinions, the words you use, can be, shall we say, offputting, at the very least, and inflammatory at the very most.

You can be more effective (and respected) if you tread lightly and resist the urge to trample.
