BESTMARK SCAM

I just received a check for $2,340.00 from "ibestmark95@gmail.com" with scam directions to keep 300 and do jobs for Kroger, Vons, Safeway and more groceries. I will take this to the post office tomorrow and hopfully they can look into it. Never having worked for Bestmark, I just signed up and this happens, I am deleting my account.
Anyone else get this.

Like the other MSCs their name has been misused for some time. I have never had issues with the actual MSC, Irene. Probably just a coincidence.
I know it's a fake, but timing was weird, just after I sign with them, I get an email saying I'm getting jobs through the mail, and the next day, this scam comes..?

Live consciously....
They have a warning on their website about this scam. I don't know if it's still there.
The whole thing smells, too involved too tell all here, but yes, site tells about a scam, however, the check I received has the same email link as I got in their email being accepted to their company...I believe this is an inside job. Why haven't they answered me?

All they can give you as an answer is not to cash the check. It would be really sad if this were an employee but also not very likely. The timing is probably just a coincidence. Bestmark is a well established company so its name is commonly used by scammers. I would hope an employee playing this game would have the sense to use a different company's name.

FWIW, I have never gotten any kind of scam letter. Seems very old fashioned. If it were coming from Bestmark's database, I would expect to have gotten one as well.
Irene, all the e-mails I've ever gotten from BestMark are "jenniferj@bestmark.com"

They don't use g-mail.

Perhaps you "signed up" on a spoof site? Some of these are so sophisticated they are hard to tell from the real thing.
I deactivated myself from BestMark a few years back after doing hundreds of shops with them. I know most of the shops we do for these mystery shopping companies are "so not worth it" but BestMark is as low paying as they get.

I'm just not going to work for them, never have jobs I want here anyway. I know they are a long standing company, and timing probably came into play. Taking check and letter to police and post office today.
They did de-activate per my request, and said I could always rejoin, however, no mention of what happened.

I received a scam similar to this on about 6 months ago. I reported it and never heard anything else about it.
I do not understand how these people get away with these types of crime...has anyone got caught and/or penalized for this??
There is a belief that most of the scammers are located somewhere outside of the United States. Tracking down sophisticated scammers who change email accounts and everything else routinely is presumably hard to do. Even the old "Nigerian Prince" scams which worked by snail mail never resulted in prosecutions, they just became obsolete.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
That is ABSOLUTELY a scam; however, is in no way affiliated with BestMark, Inc.

BestMark has been in contact with local, state and federal law enforcement to report any incidents that we've been made aware of and ask that if you are contacted by anyone you feel may be illegally representing themselves as a representative of BestMark, that you contact The Federal Trade Commission Complaint Submission link at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov.

We would also encourage you to contact your local authorities, the FBI, and the Federal Trade Commission to report any potential fraud. If you have additional questions for BestMark please call 952-922-3890.

Thanks!

I want to clarify that this type of scamming is in no way affiliated with BestMark, Inc. There was mention in one of these posts of "BestMark's database" which is highly secure and was not breached in any way. If you want additional information on our level of security, please feel free to contact us directly.

Irene,

If you have specific questions or would like to discuss, please feel free to contact us directly. Again, what you received is ABSOLUTELY a scam; however, is in no way affiliated with BestMark, Inc. or any of it's employees.

It is weird that she signed up with Bestmark and got the scam soon after. Really strange coincidence?
Irene, unless you've already deleted your account, log back in and take a close look at the URL. Maybe when you signed up, there was a sneaky switcheroo and somehow your profile ended up on a scammer website? I've been with the mentioned MSC for longer than some of our Forum peers have been alive.

I have been with Bestmark for almost 19 years, they have been around longer than that, LOL? While I am sure that there are a few shoppers somewhere who are under 20, I didn't know we had any forum members who were so young! Or you have been with them since they had paper forms you had to fill out by hand and mail in? When I first started with Maritz that's how we had to do it, they sent us the report forms and we filled them out and mailed them back. Oh another company called Pro Review as well, they did the same thing.
I wasn't saying they are a scam...no jobs I care to do in my radius, so will leave it as is. They do email me to return, it's all good.

Yeah, no worries. We all know that.
I think 90's, possibly even earlier? And yes, back when paper quadruple forms that had to be mailed back. I hated those forms....prob did less than 10 shops a month all MSC's combined.
