Frustrated Shopper

So last month I applied for a hotel shop but was not chosen for the assignment. I did ask the scheduler and she said it went to the first person who applied. This happens so not a big deal. Today I received an email from the same company and went to apply. It said in the email "If you are qualified you can self-assign." I tried to self-assign but it said "You do not have such and such certification". I went to the test, completed the test and of course the shop is not available now.

I am so frustrated as a new shopper with this company that at no time did I even know there was a test to take. The previous scheduler did not mention this. While these shops will always be filled, I find it hard to work for some companies because of their lack of communication.

We all experienced this when we first started shopping. We still experience it, at times, when we've been shopping for years. Hotel shops are often more difficult to pick up as a new shopper as they involve a bit of risk to the shopper and MSC. (New shoppers, as a whole, are far more likely to flake or screw up a shop than those that have a good track record). So, schedulers will often assign shops to established shoppers over a newer one, when given the choice - especially with shops requiring either the MSC or shopper to front a bunch of money, as with hotel shops.

Keep trying. Be professional, but persistent. If the MSC has some simpler shops to do, pick a few up so as to establish yourself - even if they don't quite meet your standard. A scheduler will then see that you do what you promise and be more likely to give you a shot at a the hotel, or whatever.

Finally, if you are willing to name the MSC, folks on this forum with experience with the MSC might be able to further advise you as to how to make good headway, specific to how that MSC operates.

I would also like to add that on many msc sites there is a dropdown that lists all the certifications that can be done with a link to each test. For myself I usually do not pay attention or even notice that section on each website until the day when I am asked to take a test. So take a thorough look at the sites for each of your msc and you might just find that list of tests lurking there all along.
You will also have to re-qualify for certain clients and MSCs. Can be annually, can be because requirements change.
