Why did you create a new thread asking the same question?

I'm guessing he started a new thread because he didn't get the answers he wanted. Wanted to give us a second chance? Great list: [www.mysteryshopforum.com]
So, I should take the untold amount of time apply to the hundreds of companies to see if one of them has shops in NJ?

Yes. If you want to work and make money, the time spent applying with companies and searching for jobs is an investment in your business. I invest time and money in my business. I provide ideas and general information here on the forum, but I don't invest in other contractor's businesses. The "untold amount of time" it takes to apply is actually only few minutes per company. Your browser settings will probably populate most of the repetitive information in the applications. If there is a narrative, you can write one, save it, and reuse it for all the companies you apply with. There are about 180 companies on the list provided at the bottom of the page. If you don't want to apply with hundreds, apply with the 15 most-discussed companies and you will probably find a bunch of potential assignments. In two hours, you can probably apply with the 15 most-discussed companies with time left over.
It should take 2 minutes or so to sign up with most of those companies. I am signed up with about 100 of them.
Not sure what happened with that one.

Yes, just like the rest of us did. There really is no shortcut. Chocolate helps, though! So do spiked lattes. Speaking of which, I haven't had one lately. *shudders*

Not to mention that the shoppers who know about shops in NJ are the ones who shop in NJ. I am not one of them, but why in the world do you think that they would want to hand over information to a competitor about shops in their state and possible cut into their own income? Does that make any sense to you? Sign up with the companies on the list below and do work that everyone else had to do.
I invested time in building my business. I will tell you that shops in North Jersey differ from shops in Central and South Jersey. Shops at the Shore are different than shops in Camden. There are far more shops in NJ than I can do, even in my part of NJ. If you are serious about becoming a mystery shopper, start signing up with companies.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
Just start with the top 15 named in the list below. Then, om any day when you do not have as many shops as you wanted, just sign up with 5 more, at random..NJ is so thick with shops that your chances of finding at least one new MSC with NJ shop in every 5 that you pick will be very good.

No one is trying to be mean; this really IS the most efficient way to find MSCs with shops inear a new shopper in just about any area of the country. So, according to that old proverb,"you have been taught to fish." Use the skills given here and you will have tons of offers.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Do the homework, we're not here to do it for you, for instance, I'm in CA and others are spread out, how would we know...we've done our work, found the companies in our town/state, all part of the business, and yes, this business is time consuming for all of us....good luck if you continue.
p.s. we get this question over and over, so that is predicting the answers we give.

Live consciously....

Yes, this is the advice I got. And it is great advice.
I am in Alberta. I am not going to know what businesses are in your area. My favourite company to shop for right now is performalogics. I don't know if they have shops in your area. My favourite mystery shopping job is for another company getting paid to return my beverage containers. Getting paid for my errands is awesome.
If I hadn't kept signing up with companies, I wouldn't have found that job. Also, I wouldn't have found out that job moved to another Mystery Shopping Company last year if I didn't keep logging in and checking various job boards.

Income? For anyone who says they are making a good living from mystery shopping I want to see their 1099's. And by a good living I mean 50K/year and I'm not talking about eating 50K of food for free. Such hostility from this post! Not that I care. First time posting. BTW, I was asking for a friend who lives in NJ. I live far from the state and have conducted over 800 shops myself in my own state.....no rookie here. And yes, looking for a short cut as I will not be shopping in NJ.
Then as a long-time shopper, you should know that not one or two or even three MSC's have the corner of mystery shopping opportunities in NJ or any other state.

Also, as a long-term shopper that doesn't live in NJ, then how did you get your start mystery shopping if it wasn't signing up with a bunch of companies? You should share that strategy with your friend.

There are a host of people who post here on this board who make a good living mystery shopping and have freely given their advice as to how to do so.

Lastly, I see hostility in your response post. If you don't care, why did you come back here to add that?

Kim
You can always set the geographic area (or zip code) on the job boards for the companies you already shop, to find out which ones conduct shops in New Jersey. Google "New Jersey," get a bunch of town names and zip codes, and look them up.

If you are an experienced shopper, than you know that Marketforce and Intellishop have shops in almost every state in the US, so I would imagine they have shops in NJ. There you go.
