InsightShoppers

I checked out the company, - they are located in Seattle, there is an address. and phone number. I did speak with Collin Burns,- who had signed the m.o.'s. I really did feel insightshoppers was legit. It still is hard for me to realize that it was a scam after everything checked out as far as I could tell. It is so frustrating to have something like this happen.I now feel my 'shopping' days are over.

They ARE a reputable company. The checks didn't really come from them...a scammer just used their name.

It's too late for you, sadly, but remember...if it seems too good to be true, it IS. It's a common scam. Company sends you a check, tells you to cash it and keep part for your fee and then wire rest to somewhere else. By the time the check comes back as counterfeit, you've already sent a sizable chunk of the money to the scammers. Sorry that this happened to you. You should report it to the police.
I have never heard of them, but feel for you....you will be responsible, and that's a tough lesson.

Live consciously....
I just received an email from this company wanting me to send them my personal information, but does not ask for social security number. It is from a Stephen Ireland. Is this legit?
Generally I would say no. You need to have some reason to believe that whomever sent you the email received your email contact information legitimately. If you are signed up to shop with company A and they share your contact information with company B because they need a shopper in your area, generally company B will tell you that company A suggested you might be interested in working with them in your area. In any event, you will be sent to a website to register rather than send your information by email. The legitimacy of that website is a whole lot easier to check.

As for Stephen Ireland? I know the name as a soccer player, not as a player in the mystery shopping world.
buttercup, I am curious as to how you found this shopping job and who it was that you were in contact with. Unfortunately, I found a mystery shopping job on my university's job center and just received over $1800 for my first "job". However, I am hesitant to cash them because I am curious about the legitimacy of this. Any further information would be great, maybe I can stop this before it happens?
twitt, not even the best of us get "jobs" that pay $1800 to cash a check. There are a ton of these fake "companies", often borrowing the names of legitimate companies, in order to rip off the trusting and naive.

You should report this. And do NOT cash the check!
And I would certainly have a conversation with the school's job center to find out if they do any checking of jobs they post at all.
Thanks for the advice-- I have emailed my schools job center regarding the post and am awaiting a response. Now my question is, I have these checks un-cashed and once I received them I knew this wasn't right. I told the guy I have been in contact with that I would not cash the checks until I knew the complete assignment details and he has yet to give them to me. What should I do to end my contact with him and what do I do with the checks? I want to completely rid myself of the mistake. HElp!
Do not reply until you've contacted the authorities. If the guy is actively communicating with you, you may have gotten a "live" one, which could be helpful.

I just dug this out of an email I sent to a friend of mine, who had also received an email (maybe even a check, can't remember). Anyway, she knows that I mystery shop, so thankfully, she contacted me before she did anything. Here's the info. I found at the time about reporting scams:

.SHOPPER ALERT- COUNTERFEIT CHECK SCAM -

1. If you receive such a counterfeit check and "mystery shopping offer," you may want to contact your local (non-emergency) number for the police, just to make sure they know the scam is taking place...understand, though, they don't have the resources to go after the scammers.

2. Report the check to the FTC toll free hotline: 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357)

3. Report the check to the FTC via its online form at [ftccomplaintassistant.gov]

4. File a complaint about the scam with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center (http://www.ic3.gov)

There may be other resources as well -- I think I've come across them in the past, but I don't have them on hand.
Ha, got my checks from Collins Burns - 2 for $930 each along with a survey. I just had to see if this was truly a scam...I knew better. I called the Postal Service to verify the Postal Money Orders and they have no record of them being issued. Oh, I goolgles Collins Burns and apparently Collins Burns in Seattle, WA is an artist...and not a mystery shopper smiling smiley
Do not fall for this...listen to everyone in this thread.
Is this the same company referred to is this thread from 2011?

I did a Goggle search and was directed to their web site with the contact information above? Is this address in Great Britain? There is not country listed.

Anyone work for Insight Mystery Shopping?

In regard to this old thread, it's impossible to answer. Scammers use the names of legitimate companies. If you're trying to find out info. about the LEGITIMATE company, look above, and click the link that says "More Discussions About Insight Shoppers LLC". It also may be included in the forum's list of legitimate companies.

Edited to add:

I just looked, and could only find one post vouching for the company's legitimacy: [www.mysteryshopforum.com] However, upon looking further, I think she may have been referring to Insight Mystery Shopping, which lists the same address that you supplied.

@ nicelytwicely ~ Thanks for going the extra mile and doing that research. I didn't find anything on the board about this company either that is why I posted under this thread. I wasn't really referring to the check scam thing. I was just trying to find out if this was a real MSC and if I should bother applying to be a new shopper.

I will wait a bit longer and give others a chance to respond. Here is the link to the company's web site (from a Goggle search.)
