Mercantile Systems Mass Email Exposes 181 Email Addresses

Roni at Mercantile Systems sent out a mass email today which exposed 181 email addresses. There may have been other emails sent with other addresses that I'm not aware of.

Just a heads up for everyone.

I have had that happen before with other schedulers. Sometimes they just forget to use the BCC option. Probably one of the ways scammers get our email addresses.

Forgetting to use the bcc option doesn't cut it for me. It should be double checked before hitting the send button. Itchy trigger fingers are no excuse.

Mercantile was my first company and we have a great relationship, except Roni a newer scheduler who is obsessed with emails. She kept sending me about five of the same daily with jobs in other states. I finally after many emails asking her to stop, and she wouldn't, I had to be firm and ask not to work with her. I stopped getting these emails, and continue working with my old and reliable schedulers...she understands firm, but sorry to say, not the brightest bulb in their association. Did I say that...whoops!!

The company should provide Schedulers with licensed bulk email software or an equivalent tool via their website. Our emails should be kept on a private server, not distributed to schedulers directly.

For Servimer (a company who uses Shopmetrics) the emails are not "distributed". I can go into the system and search for shoppers by several criteria. I can then click a button that says 'send email' and all those email addresses are loaded into a system generated email. It is auto set to BCC and I just type my message and hit send.
The problem with this is that NUMEROUS email providers label this as spam and shoppers may never see it. I also have a work provided email that is hosted by Google (rdelrio@servimer.com if anyone wants to see whats available in Minneapolis, Chicago or Wisconsin!!) That email is not nearly as likely to go to spam, but I have to be careful with the BCC. This email also requires me to download the email address list into Excel and then upload it into the email.

I just wanted to give a little insight into the choices I have when using Shopmetrics.

Thanks for sharing.

I am in sales. The BCC option is a less expensive option offered. For a small additional investment, most bulk email software will support sending out individual emails. I prefer that method, because as noted many spam filters block BCC emails, even if the receiver sets up filters to accept them from specific sources.
