Who is Norton Norris, please? Did you get a check in the mail? Or an unsolicited email about MS for a company that you are not signed up with? Either one is likely a scam.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Yes. Excellent company with very interesting shops, well-paying ones, at that. But as Wales says, they do NOT pay up front -- and they aren't the kind of company that wants you to buy gift cards.

Thanks for your help today!! I’m new to the mystery shopper and I’m hopeful for a little help to understand what I’m doing ????
Cub,
For a big head start, go to the New Mystery Shoppers area where reading the first dozen or so posts, pinned to the top of the list there, will provide a LOT of info and support. Welcome and enjoy !

You might not want to do Norton Norris as a first shop, then. IIRC, the shops are multi-part and not all that easy or simple. Did you already get assigned a shop with them?

Welcome to the forum. Check out the "new shopper" area -- there's a wealth of info there to help you get started.
Did you sign up with Norton Norris and fill out your application on a secure website, being given a user name and password to log in? You hopefully have signed up with the "real" Norton Norris" and not some scammer. There are a lot of mystery shopping scams going on where scammers impersonate a rep from real mystery shopping companies. They send large checks or ask shoppers to buy gift cards and scratch off the bar to reveal the codes, which they then use for online purchases. The shopper ends up being out a lot fof money from this type of fraud. Cease and Wales were both trying to prevent you from being a fraud victim. Could you please tell us how you have heard of Norton Norris?
Hi, a Thank for the input. I think that I’m working with a legitimate representative because he is using the company email domain and not gmail
Hi,
I was connected with Norton norris thru a LinkedIn connection. I had one one connection who was using a gmail account and I’m not sending her any email
That doesn't mean anything. That can be spoofed and many people have been taken advantage of in this manner. If you were sent a large check in advance, it's a scam. Mystery shopping does not work that way. No one gets paid in advance. Why would a complete stranger send a check to you for work you haven't done?
Have you ever worked a job where you got paid upfront? Did you give your social security number and fill out an application form on their website? That is the only way to get jobs from Norton Norris.

Could you please post the email address of this representative for us to inspect?
This is an old trick, using Linkedin. I almost am certain someone is trying to scam you.
[nortonnorris.com]

Please go to the link above. This is the site where you would have to register in order to become a shopper. Please call them and ask them about the person who is pretending to be one of their representatives. I am certain that person is NOT one of their reps. They have on their home page the following message:

"Norton Norris will never require you to purchase gift cards.
If you are contacted by anyone requesting you to buy gift cards please notify us at 312-262-7404."
Hi,
I’ve copied the email message from the recruiter. Does that look legit?

We have received and accepted your application, and you are hereby confirmed to be registered as a part-time agent for the ongoing marketing research program. Your first assignment will commence next week as we have a client in the process of posting a payment check to you. The payment will be posted next week. You will then be required to follow instructions which will be given to you.

Once you have received the payment, we will require you to make a purchase of one or two products from any nearby store not costing more than $50 and also give us feedback on their customer service delivery. Further details on the assignment will be provided next week.
NO, no no it's a scam. Please, please call the "real" Norton Norris.

When you do assignments, you sign up on their website, do the job, and get paid anywhere from a few weeks to a month later. You do NOT get paid in advance!!!!!
I just had an email convo with Vince Norton and he asked me to post this:

NN will NEVER send a check and require the purchase of gift cards. They in fact have a warning on their web site:

[nortonnorris.com]

There are two individuals (James Raspberry and Kevin Clark) who are posing as NN employees. They have cloned the NN logo — BUT their email address is slightly different with only one “r” in Noris. Anyone receiving a check should not cash the check. It will bounce."

When you get th check in the mail, save everything. Contact the US postal Inspectors who have the ability to stop mail delivery to any address in the US, so they will investigate and hopefully act against the scammers. You are being scammed. The check will bounce if you deposit it, but that will take a few days (having access to the funds in your own checking account the next business day does not mean that they check has cleared) and then your bank will want all the money back plus fees.

DO NOT DEPOSIT the check when it arrives. Your ban will find out in about 3 weeks that it was a fake. But, by that time you will have used part of the funds to do the fake "project" and YOU will be responsible for giving those funds back to the bank. they may close your account AND put you on a list for other banks to see that you have used fake checks. NN DOES NOT pay in advance and is trying to warn people about this scam.

SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! Never give out any information to any Mystery Shopping Company unless you go to their legitimate sight, not through an email. We never, ever get paid ahead of a shop.
@JASFLALMT, just wanted you to know that you are most caring for responding to those MSs who are about to be scammed.
It makes my heart hurt to know that people get taken advantage of, and often the ones who fall for this are already scraping trying to make ends meet. It's so sad.
Thanks for your help.
Do you have any advice for me to become a legit mystery shopper?
@Cubphan, I was notified you had been targeted for a scam that is going around pretending to be from Norton Norris. I work at the company and can confirm this is an ongoing issue which we have brought to the attention of various authorities. You don't need to take my word for it, feel free to search for Norton Norris online and take 5 minutes to give us a call at our main number. Anyone you talk to can confirm this has been an issue for the last couple of months. I'm happy to answer any questions you have. I strongly advise not complying with the scam instructions as that check will not clear and you can end up losing quite of lot of money.
There are links at the bottom of this page. One of them is the New Mystery Shoppers section. Another link takes you to a list of REAL MSCs and Norton Norris is one of them. As a beginner, I would sign up with Marketforce first. But, the very first thing you should do is to follow the advice from wales below and read information in the new shoppers section.

I did a school shop for them a few years ago. The pay was good, but the report was tedious.
