Eye Spy

Has anyone been successful with these? I tried 2 at a grocery store near where I was shopping. The descriptions made it impossible to find the products. It seemed the search could only be done manually by bar code.

Field Agent.

It looks to me like it has replaced Scavenger Hunt, which was a huge waste of time.

I agree, impossible to even name what it is you're supposed to be looking for. I don't see how you can even find the SKU or whatever that number is if you can't even know what area of the store to look in.
I stayed away from Scavenger Hunts, and I avoid these "Eye Spy" jobs as well. Never enough info and a waste of time.
This isn't the type of job that I would want to do, but finding out what the item is. Just type the UPC into Google and you will find out quickly. Probably even with photos. After that, you are on your own again.

BTW, you can also type in the little numbers and letters on drugs and Google will tell you what they are.

Edited to change SKU to UPC.

there are suggestions on FB how to use such jobs for DG locations only.

I was actually wondering how you would be able to find the UPC code on a piece of fried chicken at a gas station, to match it exactly to the job. That, in itself, told me that even trying to find things would be a frustrating waste of time.

I've only ever been able to find one upc in Google and it was for restaurant frozen yogurt mix that I knew was absolutely not carried anywhere locally.

Descriptions are way off and I promise you those items have never been sold in that store.

I have actually been very successful with the eye spy. The scavenger I never found anything. I just go in a huge location of that supermarket/gas station and go around trying to find the items by doing the search by map and open the items for that chain. Once you find them, hit accept to put it in your account and then it takes 3 minutes for all the photos for each sku.
BTW, another good app is the ivue, especially if you are surrounded by banks and churches. Good fillers when you drive by them, or you can make a quick route.
SKU? I'm given UPC codes in Eye Spy and when I try to google it, I get a bunch of suggested sites to use but doesn't return what the product is. I'll hunt for products in a grocery store but feel like I'm casing the joint in a 7-eleven.
Search by map?

I use Field Agent, and I don't have a clue what you're saying.

I meant UPC. I only was able to successfully Google one of them and it was for something that was absolutely not carried anywhere locally.
BarcodeSpider.com is a website that deciphers UPC codes. I just tried it with random food items from my pantry and it got every one of them correct. Usually, it even displays a photograph of the product. Here is the link: [www.barcodespider.com]

I've tried this site too but every single one that's listed for me doesn't come up with any kind of response other than they can't find the UPC code.

When you click on "Find jobs" then you can see the results either by "jobs" on the left, or "map" on the right. I click on "map" and it shows me all the "Whole Foods" items for example. S o I go inside the huge WF and try to locate every item showing under a WF listing.
i agree that it is a waste of time. I went to three different shops and none had what they were looking for.
Every single one is still on the board.

You almost have to know what they are looking for. This is like the old scavenger hunt. Sometimes you think you have it exactly, only to maybe discover the UPC is a different batch, otherwise it works. But sometimes, the items are so unique to that store brand, it is just a matter of catching the items (maybe from deli, bakery, etc) at the right time. I have gotten lucky. Not worth it to go out of your way
Exactly. You have to have an idea of what to look for to even start.

I tried three location of the same chain and looked for 4 items listed. No luck. Must be a specific batch? Expiring? Or promotional?
That must be why there is the caveat that the item may not be in the store.

They appear to be gone now.
