Interesting cell phone shop

I've done many cell phone shops but this was a first. I went by the script. asked the employee about the features of certain phones. I was told this store is about service. We expect the customer to know what they want before coming in. There are so many phones, with so many features, we cannot learn all of them. There are Youtube videos you can watch to see the features and compare. There are cards with each phone you can read about the features. I asked about a demo and the employee told me I could pick up the phone and try them myself. I was taken back by this store. I've done this same store before the pandemic. Back than they did talk about the phones and did demos. Has anyone had this happen? Is this a new trend?

johnb, I don't think it's a new trend. I think it was a new employee who was not good at their job.

I bet that employee is no longer working there.

I've done a fair number of cell phone shops. In my experience, just about any employee can take you through the features of pretty much any phone you pick up. They tend to be pretty knowledgeable.

And they all have iPhones.
The employee was very clear. He said at this store we are about services. We expect customers to know what they want before coming in. This appears to be a store policy. Maybe management is pushing services only. If another shop is offered for this store, I'll take it and see if they've changed. I just wonder if this has happened to anyone else.
This employee said, there are so many phones with so many features, they don't even train us on them. It's all about services. I guess they make more on the services, and this store is pushing them. I wish I could listen in on the company getting this report. I did my job, that's all I can do.
i did a cell phone shop a few years ago that required me to inquire about a specific brand/model of phone, and when i asked the associate to show me that model, he told me it was garbage and i would hate it. he showed me a completely different phone instead. i tried to get him to go back to the required model, but he wouldn’t. it was a weird report to write up and i still wonder what ever happened with that.
