FEEDBACK PLEASE: Intell-Shop hotel shops???

Saw a juicey Intell-Shop hotel shop posting for a Times Square, NYC location and wondered how hard or easy the report might be. Pics were required. I have never done a hotel shop...but get the sense that more time is required than you might assume...

Many Thanks

I have now done 2 hotel shops. One was at what was supposed to be an upscale hotel, not that I noticed all that much different. That one was a major pain in the you know what. There were a lot of sections to report on and I spent hours writing it up. It was one of only four shops I have ever done that they asked for clarification on something.

I did one this week that was easier than most regular retail. Only a few sections and they wanted limited narrative.

Unfortunately neither was for Intelli-shop. Maybe you should e-mail and ask how many areas need to be evaluated.
I just went and looked because you gave enough info to check it out.

If I am looking at the same shop (it is in same location and pics are required, so am assuming it is) In looking at the expense limit and the one night I randomly put in for the hotel, it appears it will cost significantly more for the room than what the expense limit is. For the night I did it was $90 more for the room than the expensive limit, plus you would need to pay taxes on the whole cost of the room. It also mentioned that there was $110 dollars in purchases for dinner, breakfast, and a bar trip that were required, but under special expenses it still lists $0. Would want to get that all confirmed before agreeing to do it because otherwise you would be out a lot of money unless you already wanted to go there.

Given that I would want to know as much about the shop and report before I even considered it.
I work alot for Intelli and have never seen a hotel here in L.a., most dealerships, but I just did an upscale jewelry shop, never a hotel. I would imagine the report is long...is it reimbursement only?

I looked it up, too. I bet you have to write a novel! Hotel shops on their own are long. Write about the phone call for reservation, check-in, physical condition of the lobby, the grounds, the room, the hallways, the pool, the exercise room, the meeting room. Were the linens and towels clean? How comfortable was the bed? Some want you to jerk someone's chain about booking for a gathering. You call down to the desk complain about something, go fetch a toothbrush at the front desk, and ask for a wake-up call.

Add three restaurant shop write-ups, which can be pages on their own: a trip to the bar, a dinner, and a breakfast.

As Shelly pointed out, the stated maximum reimbursement does not cover the cost of the hotel. (Plus you cannot take kids.) You are going to spend hours and hours on the write-up without an opportunity to go sight-see.
Many thanks everybody for your valued responses...I will pass on this hotel shop...I live close enough anyway to Times Square. Again, thanks for the heads up!!!
If you look at the client name, it appears theses are competitor shops; Not directly for the hotels in question. I imagine from the way it's written, the final total would be adjusted to meet the folio charges, provided one stayed within the published limits. That's standard for hotel shops.

On the other hand, you are dealing with a company that has not done a lot of hotel shopping as far as I know, and has become notorious, IMHO, for expecting A LOT of work for very little return. No pay for the shop either.

Hotel shops are my bread and butter, and I wouldn't touch that one with a 10-Ft. pole. You can get $50 for a relatively simple report with similar requirements for some of those very hotels by other companies discussed here.
Does anybody get paid timely from Intelli shop? I'm still waiting to get paid for shops completed in June.
They are on the slow side, but always pay.... I have been working for them for 5 years, never got stiffed, had points deducted or crazy stuff. They are a stable MSC in my book.

I get paid regularly. I do credit union shops for them every month and am always paid in a timely manner. I have no complaints at all.
I need to find a company that does hotel shops. Can yall give me some names, please? I don't need to know what hotels, obviously, but just a general idea of some of the MSCs that have those shops available. Thanks in advance.

Hotel shops that I've done do not list a reimbursement amount initially. The reason they give for this is that until you have actually booked the room, they do not know what rate the reservation desk is going to give you. They do tell you in the instructions that as long as you reserve the cheapest available room, they will reimburse you the room + taxes. I haven't had a problem getting reimbursed. Those shops weren't with Intel, but it was consistent with the two companies I've done hotel shops for.
I have done hotel shops both ways. I have seen the ones that just say that they will reimburse the costs and others state a maximum amount. It is more common to reimburse the whole cost, but I would still say it is critical to confirm that is the case.
I just saw that they posted a shop for a hotel in Los Angeles that I've spent my last 2 birthday nights at. I will let you know right now that their reimbursement fee will not cover the shop. I am a "high" member of the hotel's rewards program and the best deal that were able to get me was $550 a night. Dinner alone is like $350-$450 for two people if you really want to enjoy it. The restaurant is tapas style..and, well..to give you an example, we ordered a side of olives and received six spoons with a tiny olive on each one. That dish was about $12. Alcoholic drinks are $20 minimum, although their specialty cocktails are probably the best ones i've ever had anywhere.

You have been warned..lol

Agree. They're very stable and pay according to their terms, but their terms are a tad on the long side. They pay on or around the 20th of the 2nd month after your shop. For instance, if you perform a shop anytime during the month of June, your payment would have arrived on August 20th.

This is why I won't do jobs for them that have heavy reimbursements. I can tolerate a 75 day pay cycle for contractor pay, if I know it will remain stable. I'm not carrying large expenses for that long, though. A few bucks, like one of their fast food shops, sure. But certainly nothing like a Times Square hotel.
Just saw and applied for an upscale hotel, realy hip and chic, first hotel I've ever seen...wonder if they put them on your space after doing a difficult job and remain standing.

What would you do if you had a Manager help you all through your dealership, only to call over an odd salesman for the test drive. This salesman freaked me out, and I didn't want to take the test drive...long story, but I didn't take test drive saying I was still looking. Report wasn't accepted even though I explained in length why I didn't take test drive with this last minute salesman. I would have taken it with original Manager that helped through whole visit, then switched on me. Salesman smelled, wore a turbin, didn't speak English and was a bit scary to me.......I don't care if report wasn't accepted, I'd do the same thing again. Somedays, nothing works...

I really like this hotel and the restaurant in which you speak is probably my favorite restaurant in the United States... it is shopped as well (seperate from this). I think you can probably get dinner for two for $200 at the restaurant if you ordered conservatively and did not have much or any alcohol. Of course not sure you would "really enjoy it then" - smiling smiley

It is a tempting shop - if I lived in the area or was going to be there I might apply too... I hope someone here gets it and can give us some feedback on what it was like.
Point being, if they don't cover reimbursement, I'm out...thanks for heads up AG. I know exactly where the hotel is, lots of starlets hang out there...as far as the restaurant goes, I'd do that one alone for reimbursement.

It is possible that the reimburesement amount is just a guideline and they will actually pay the full reimbursement as long as you stay within the guidelines. The posting notes do state, "all expenses will be reimbursed" - which kind of implies this. I know other companies that do shops on the Sassie platform often time list a general reimbursement amount that is actually adjusted based on what you spend. Not saying that it isn't prudent to check this out before taking the shop - just saying that it is possible that they will reimburse for everything.

I do agree though, the reimbursement limit they have on the job is too low and won't cover everything they talk about in the notes.

Six spoons with a tiny olive? Hysterical!
The restaurant was one of my favorites but I do feel that the quality has gone down a bit. Irene..they sell this tortilla soup of sorts for like $9. It is basically a 2oz serving with a tiny spoon to go with it. They also sell this tiny avocado roll for about $16. By tiny..I mean small and thin.

I would confirm with them what you can order. They do not have entrees. If your husband is like my boyfriend, then I suggest that he eats before arrival lol.

This reminds me of the time I went to koi on la cienega and asked for the lobster tacos appetizer, which was $28. I received four chips with a spoonful of lobster on top. I would have rather bought a bag of chips and my farmer's market salsa for $6.
AG...yes, at times it seems chic for the portions to be small..I've eaten like that many times. I want a meal for my money, and wait to eat at Mortons, Flemings or I love Stella Rossa in Santa Monica...great food, nice portions and not off the wall money wise. I also love Elephant Bar happy hour and go with a friend (not a shop). They have an amazing salmon roll, about 8 nice pieces for two, price $6.00, their lemon drop martini is $5.00 during happy hour, so can eat for 10.00 + and go home full. You know you pay for the name, I'm over it!! Pantina Group used to be shopped and had fabulous restaurants in L.A. No longer shopped, boo hoo.

I've never seen Intelli shop a restaurant.

Can't help but comment on the LA upscale restaurant scene...I have never shopped for Intellishop but did the flagship of one of the restaurants you referenced. Vowed to never go there again even with reimbursement. My appetizer of beet salad was four beets the size of small marbles. It looked beautiful but would not have filled a tablespoon....$28 as I recall. I asked the bread waiter what the origin of the bread was (which country it was originally from) at this upscale place and he said it was from La Brea Bakery down the street. Funny! A bill over $200 and if I liked McDonalds I would have stopped on the way home to fill my tummy.
