I do like keeping this forum going just for it's own sake though. I grew up on internet forums in my teens & early twenties, and wish there were more places like this on the internet, as opposed to the "new" social media like FB, TikTok, etc.
@ArkLaMissshopping -- Sounds like you've had a very interesting career! Would be curious to learn more. I don't feel up for starting up the magazine again, as I'd want to run it like a business, and that would mean doing it *right*, in terms of making it actually be sustainable, profitable, pay contributors (even if modestly), etc. Not sure I could get it there without time that I don't have.
@TeriW -- I got rid of the group by function for now. Thank you for letting me know about the bug.
I'll think about the donation button -- but will definitely hold off for now!
@pumpkinspicy -- I'm hesitant to accept donations, as I'm not sure how much I could live up to, in terms of managing the forum appropriately. Not accepting donations makes me feel better about being absentee at times, which I very much am! Though, I do very much care about this community!
@ArkLaMissshopping -- Unfortunately, life got in the way, and I had to give up publishing the magazine. It would be great to get it going again, but I'm not sure that I have the time to do it.
Hello everyone! I'm working on updating the forum software. This means there may be bugs and/or other problems that crop up, but also that it will work better in the long run.
I've also removed many of the ads from the site. They were making around $100 per month, which wasn't even enough to cover the server costs, plus they're very annoying. I'm not a fan of Google ads. Maybe there is a bette
@pumpkinspicy -- I think I've fixed all of those issues, except for the missing titles and links on those posts. I suspect it could be caused from when I duplicated the database for the test version, but am not sure yet.
Hello everyone!
I've been working hard on finally updating the very outdated software for the forum.
I've set up a "test" version of the site at:
Please take a look and poke around. Hopefully you will help me uncover any bugs before deploying the new code to the main site.
Thank you!
Honestly -- I forget what happens! Though, I'm pretty sure that if enough people press the thumbs down button, it gets hidden and flagged for review. It's only available to certain members though, to prevent it from getting abused. It's mostly a way to quickly deal with trolls.
OK -- I went ahead and had to disable the "updates" feature for now. This will take more time than I thought to figure out this particular bug. Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out within the next week. In the meantime, let me know if you find any other issues!
@drdoggie00 -- I believe I fixed the errors you mentioned, but I'm not 100% sure. Can you check again, and see if it's still there? It's very possible there's more errors as well. Thank you!
Hello! Everyone! We had to migrate to a new server, which also required updating much of the software. This, unfortunately, may have caused some issues, in terms of things not working right. The good news, at least, is that the server is significantly faster.
I'll be working on fixing problems over the next few weeks. If you find any issues, please let me know in this post, and I'll look into
As many of you know @stilllearning and @StormCloud are working on updating the official database of companies here, which is very out of date.
They've created a spreadsheet, linked below, which will be useful in updating the database here. They can edit it -- so if you add corrections, add notes, etc to this post, they'll be able to update it as needed.
Thank you everyone for working o
I am so sorry about this – The email system was broken for some time on the forum, and I only recently discovered this! It should be fixed now. This did create a bit of a backlog, which I am now working through.
The best way to reach me is at my personal email address: jpjans gmail com
I was once at the Apple store, and loaded the forum on one of the test computers. Suddenly, the person I was with was getting *much* better customer service.
