UHGGGGGG I messed up a shop!

I was working with a new company who does new home shops and I was so excited. It was a video shopping company and they had a lot of stuff where I live. I went through the training and everything and then just a million things went wrong and yes, quite a few were my fault. I got the camera and I didn't check it out right away and didn't notice they didn't send me an SD card. I called them and found out I was the first person not to get one as they are transitioning to having shoppers provide their own. So, basically I was the guinea pig of this new policy but wasn't informed. No big deal but I was supposed to do my first shop in a few hours. So, that put me on a time crunch. My fault for not checking but still frusterating. Then I went to go grab the camera as it had been charging all night in preperation. I go in their and it's almost dead! I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Nothing. Then I switched to the bottom outlet and still nothing. I hit the reset button. Nothing. I hit it again and it started charging. This is a new house and I'm still learning things about it like outlets that are tricky. We just moved into the house in April and I had it plugged in the guest bathroom which I rarely use.

So, then I call my scheduler and she's wondering why I got a camera that was almost dead because they always fully charge them before shipping. I feel a little like she thinks I was lying but I wasn't. Anyway, so I'm charging it and I moved my shop appointment back a half hour. I finally grab the camera and head out so I can grab an SD card and go to the shop but there is a train basically parked on the tracks that are on the road I needed to go down. So, I bust a u-turn in the middle of the road and go a different longer way. By the time I get the card and get back onto the road the traffice has gotten bad bc I had to change my appointment from 3:30 to 4pm on a Friday of all days. I called her to tell her what was up and she said to just reschedule.

I'm frusterated and I rescheduled. I felt so stupid for making these dumb errors that yes were in part caused by the company by not charging the camera before sending it and not informing me I need an SD card but I could have easily caught this stuff if I was paying attention. My only excuse is that I found out I have a non cancerous tumor the size of my uterus on my uterus the week prior. I found out by going to the hospital in extreem pain. They gave me some pain meds and The whole week I was supposed to do the shop was just awful because this tumor could impact my having kids and I have to have surgery asap because I'm getting married in September. So, basically I was drugged up and freaking out about my health. I was not at my best.

Well, as if that wasn't enough to deal with I had another problem. So, I went to do the shop on the following Tuesday and everything is fine. I turn on the camera when I'm by the shop. I realize that's not the right place so I turn it off, drive a few more miles and turn it on again. I go do the shop and as we are driving to the second house I decide to check the camera because it has gotten very hot in my pocket. I look and...

I'S NOT RECORDING!

I freaked but started recording again. I'm hoping it maybe just lost a bit but I finish out the shop. I get in my car and the camera is now so hot it is burning my leg. I pull it out of my pocket and it's still recording. I stop the recording and then it freezes. I cannot do anything at all with the touch screen, remote, or even the buttons on the camera. I finally take the battery off the back just to get it to turn off. I let it cool down and then flip it on. I look for the video I shot and there is only one video. The video of when I checked the camera on the way to the second house. I was so confused. I called my scheduler and she said to upload what I had. She didn't understand how the other videos weren't there and neither did I.

Finally, I go home and check the card and low and behold there are two folders and one contains the files I thought were gone. Turns out they never set the time or date on the camera so the camera turned from one day to the next during my shop. So, it hid the files in another folder. Uhg. I was happy though. Maybe my shop was mostly there. Nope, the camera turned off like 30 seconds after I put it in my pocket. I had nothing.

They had me send them the equipment back and said they would give me another chance but are not sure when. They are sending another shopper to do the shops they had. They said they can't risk having another messed up shop for the same company plus they need to figure out if the equipment is malfunctioning.

I'm not getting paid and I had to pay to send the equipment back. I understand that. I'm just so frusterated. I've never had equipment failure. Not even once! They scolded me for not using the back brace they sent me for the camera but they didn't send me one big enough for my body and it was putting a lot of pressure on my abdomen which is where my tumor is. So, it was causing me a lot of pain. I was too embarrased to tell them that.

But I also wonder if they realize that the back brace is pretty apparent to anyone paying attention. You can clearly see a rectangle shape at your back when you wear it. If these people are really keeping their eye out for shoppers then it's pretty easy to spot one who is wearing a brace because the have a huge square shape sticking out of their back. I live somewhere very windy so often our shirts are plastered against you so they would definitely see it.

Anywho that's my rant. Please don't scold me because I know that the majority of this was my fault and also a bit of crappy luck with the camera failure. I just wish it hadn't been my first shop with them because then they would know how good I am. I normally do not have these kinds of issues. I get all sorts of praise about my video shops from so many of my schedulers.

Anyhow, anyone else have a shop where everything seemed to go wrong and/or you messed up and it really made you look bad?

Well, I know you can't move it. The moderators can.

By the way, my extreme sympathy for you. What happened was a living nightmare.
I'm sure our video shoppers will be able to offer insight and advice, and tips for moving forward. I can only offer sympathy for your experience.
Everyone who has done many video shops has had at least one where everything went wrong that could go wrong, and then things that couldn't go wrong went wrong anyway. You are not alone! When the video gods decide to kick you in the teeth, they first put on their steel-toed boots. The good news is that most Video-MSCs use schedulers who have also done a ton of video shops and know how crazy things can get.

I have never heard of a company that sends a back brace, and would be curious to know which MSC that might be.

Good luck with your surgery and wishing you a swift recovery.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I am sorry to hear about your health issues. A messed up shop is nothing compared to the pain you must be in.
Don't be to hard on yourself. You did the best you could do at the time. It is just a learning experience for next time. It is what it is. I wish you the very best. Take care.

Frustrating but everything is a learning experience. I have a strong feeling that when I foray into video shopping I will probably have a day close to the one you were describing. Hang in there - the next one has to be easier.
The answer is: what can you control and what can you not control?

Answer these two questions and you'll have clarity.

I've suggested that rants should be allowed and taken with a grain of salt. We work in the aura of anonymity and have few that know our work. If i rant, this is what my subject heading would look like:
