I would NOT cash this check without researching it first.
Take it to your bank. Cash it. Hold it 2 weeks.

I keep track by flagging unpaid shops in my excel spreadsheet. When I get a payment from an MSC, I assume they are paying the oldest shops. I add them up from oldest to newest until I hit the amount of the check and those are the ones I mark "paid."
When you find out who they are, feel free to give them my name and address for any other manna they care to send out.

I've never heard of an MSC where LORD would apply in any way. Are you sure this mysterious check is even from an MSC?

Maybe it will be followed up with, "I accidentally sent you a check, please wire the money back to me by Western Union and keep 10% for your trouble....."
(For the benefit of any innocents who don't recognize the M.O., that scenario would be a scam. The check will turn out to be counterfeit, and when it bounces your bank will take back the full amount from your account and you will be out 100% of the amount you wired to the scammer. Do not ever wire money to anyone you don't know personally and have not independently verified the request for funds actually came from the person you know personally. Another scam has the scammer pretending to be a relative in trouble needing bail or bribe money to get out of a foreign jail. Don't fall for that one either.)

I got it! That check was supposed to be for Shop2Live's jury duty. It's $15 - the amount you get in Florida and it's from "Lord" and everyone knows how lofty the court considers itself.

I put money owing as a pending transaction with the date I should receive it. That way I can see if anything is late.

It could be from a shop for Lord and Taylor I have done them in the past. Look up the company address on the check if listed.
Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
One of the companies has put out a warning lately that states to be careful of checks coming from what appears to be their company. Apparently there are now some scams out there with checks from mystery shopping companies. I would call the "Lord" to verify if they had sent you a check and what shop it was for.
I have been receiving cheques from ACCESS for a few years now and had absolutely no idea what they were for. I finally found out last month when the MSC phoned me regarding the ACCESS cheque they had just sent out to a number of shoppers. Finally, mystery solved!!! I promptly updated my MSC information book.
