That one time my CEO almost busted me...

I was doing a grocery shop that you leave something under your cart to see if the cashier catches it. Usually they just say oh what kind of water is that, and then they scan a booklet at their register...well the cashier was being super weird just looking at it them me (he didn't get great reviews to say the least), then all the sudden a man behind me comments that he thought the cashier was wanting me to bring the water up to scan...turn around and it is the President and CEO of the company I work at....My company isn't super big so he knowns me and the work I do. So he starts trying to talk to me and it was akward. He was asking if i live in the area...I don't really...but its not super out of the way...so I was as vague as possible being like "kinda, but was over here and figured i would get my groceries now".

Whenever I run into someone i know, i always feel akward. I was doing a clothing retailer shop once and ran into a college friend. Sometimes if the store is big enough i will find a way to avoid the person, but if its a smaller store...its a struggle.

What do you do when you run into someone you know while doing a shop?

On another post I told the story of running into my brother in law on a high end restaurant shop. Not only did i run into him but they cancelled my own reservation when he arrived a few minutes before me thinking they had double booked the name/table. He lives 3000 miles away from the location and we had no idea he was in town.

I stay pleasant, but act a little rushed.

Unless it's the CEO of the company I work for who has noticed and pointed out to me that I seem to be trying to shoplift a case of water.

Then I start working on my resume.
I've only been mystery shopping for a few months, but I've ran into people I knew two times.

The first was at a woman's exercise clothes store, where the dressing room attendant was a woman who teaches classes at my gym. She asked all kinds of questions about my exercise habits and how the clothes fit into into those habits.

The second was at a drug store where I saw a woman from work. She's pretty nosy and tried five different ways to figure out what I was doing there. I made a generic response and went in the other direction as fast as I could!

I ran into my high school nurse at an airport bar in CA on a shop... I went to school in PA so no clue what she was doing there, but we had a nice long chat and she was a lot cooler than I remembered her to be.

I ran into a friend's recent (very recent) ex on a drugstore shop and overheard her picking up a medication prescription. Nosy ass that I am, I Googled the name of it and found out that it's commonly prescribed for herpes. Gross. She noticed me as she was leaving, and turned abruptly and went down a different aisle.

Plan the work. Work the plan.
I remain friendly and cordial. Most of my friends are from my FTjob so they know me from there. No-one knows I MS. Sometimes I just say I am picking up a few extras before going home, cause I'm off for the next few days and I don't want to leave the house.

We part and I am on my way. Also when I go MSing after work, I genenrally have on my uniform.
I ran into friend/co-worker and her mom during a shop. I said 'Hi" and we chatted for a minute. My friend gave me a look and I said I better get going because I was "SHOPPING". My friend understood and laughed. I'm sure she explained it to her mom later.
I was doing a shop where you have to bring crutches or a cane and use the motorized wheelchair while you shop and see if store personnel offers you assistance. So there I am, riding along and two of my friends turn down the aisle and see me and start laughing hysterically. They know what I do, but this scenario was never discussed, so I had to just tighten my lip and tell them I was working and drive off. We all had a good laugh later.
