Do people really take shops like this?

I keep getting an email from a certain MSC for this shop:

Info: Food Delivery Order Shop
Location: XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX
Shop Dates: Limited dates between 10/27/2014 and 10/31/2014
Times: Sun-Sat: Open - Close
Payment: Flat payment 10.00 USD

When I went to look at this shop, they require you to order an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. In my estimation that is going to be at least $30 worth of food.

They only pay a flat payment of $10 (in other words, no reimbursement on the food).

so essentially this is like a $10 off coupon in which you have to fill out a report afterwards as well and then HOPE they don't reject it.

I can do better from the Sunday paper with no report due.

I recall commenting that some shops are meant for the person who is going to buy from the store anyway. The reimbursement isn't the inducement to do the shop; the fee is the inducement to do the report about something you were going to do anyway.

I never heard of this one, what type of shop is it? I shop many restaurants, (not fast food). I always receive enough money for the menu choices. Maybe we don't have one in New England.

No way. I never repeat a shop if the reimbursement doesn't cover the requirements, either. Cheapas*es.

If I was going to the restaurant anyway - maybe. They are giving you $10 to write a report and if it takes more than 15 minutes of my time probably not going to happen especially if there are multiple timings and interactions expected. Does not make for a very relaxing dining experience and on my own dime I would rather relax than be stressed about the measly ten dollars.

I agree. Having to take notes and do timings then go home and write a report is neither relaxing nor enjoyable. It sucks all the fun out of the evening. I never do dining shops for no or little pay. When I want a night out, I pay for it myself.

There's a certain bar integrity shop I do about 4 times a year. Pays $40 reimbursement plus $15 fee. I can get a good meal for the reimbursement, including the tip, and the MSC gives me 24 hours to get the report in. Being in a single party consent state, I let my DVR do the work, then I do the report the next morning.

The company that keeps sending me this is Secret Shopper.

I'll admit so far I've not been that impressed with their offerings.

I did a theme park yesterday and was required to purchase a Fast Pass. I go to pay for my Fast Pass and it is $75, they only reimbursement $20. Since I have to use it and I was required to bring a child (my 5 y/o), I had to buy him one because parents all know how that one would have gone over, "You wait while Mommy goes on this ride." His pass was only $ 65 so not as bad, :-/ Then, I had to play two at $10 a piece but only reimbursed $8 total!

If I would have known, I would not have been done it! My son had fun but he paid the wrath of mommy the following day when mommy had to do a 300+ question report!

The $10 food delivery only has a 3 mile radius in my area. I live 18 miles from both restaurants.
