I didn't read the entire instructions bec they don't interest me.....you have a 1 hour training session and something about being there when they count???
I cannot, due to a scheduling conflict. Since it is not "undercover", I would think about it for the right price if I was available. These sound like you will have approval to be there and get the figures to report to the public. My only concern would be the amount of time this takes. They offered what looks like a good sum of money, but in order to track "as it happens", you might be investing 14 plus hours. (Poll open to close and then tally time). I may be wrong in these assumptions, but I would not accept the assignment for the amount of money that I saw.
The introduction email says you only need to be there 1 hour before the polls close, so not from open to close. It also says that you need to stay for the duration of the count, which could be 6-8 hours. Once you get into the sign up it says the training video is 45 minutes. Personally, I live in a small community where it should not take anywhere near 6-8 hours, and the polling location is about 2 miles from my home, so I signed up. Haven't heard that I've been accepted yet.
Duration of the count is 6-8 HOURS??? What country is this in? The machines we have are computerized and you can run a tally within minutes after the last voter finishes. I've been an election inspector working the election day since 1994, Even the old totally mechanical machines didn't take longer than half an hour to get the tallies from the machines. You have each machine team with a member from both parties reading the numbers and putting them on the log sheets at the end of the night. If you were there for the entire day it's 17 hours on duty, from 5 am to 10 pm and other than officials from the Board of Elections there was no loitering by an outside party for any reason.

we have OLD punch ballots and i could see it taking quite a while....plus I just can't imagine them saying "oh sure you can hang around here".......
Think about when you watch election night, and they can't declare winners because it is too close to call. Some precincts don't report in time to make it in the newspaper, and if there's a glitch, it could beca long night.

Hey if the money is good.... I've done something that sounds close to what you describe except it was 12 hrs @ $208. I had nothing else going on that day so.
We've had several glitches around here which have resulted in the counting going on well after midnight. I am in Florida though home of the "hanging chad"
I almost didn't give these a second look since I have to tutor in the afternoons. However, I realized I don't have to arrive until one hour before polls close. We still have a lot of these available in NH (need to expand the map). I chose a small town within a reasonable driving distance. I used to live there, so I know it is a small population. I also am pretty sure only a small percentage of this town bothers to vote. I hope it's worth it. If nothing else, it will be interesting.
Here when they say the election is so close it's usually not the machine but the absentee ballots filed at the board of elections that they'll have to tally. I used to work at our board of elections office at the county too. One person from each party had to open them together and witness each vote.

Cettie - I believe it is in Zoltar.
I thought Zoltar was a planet, not a country. (tee hee)

Time to build a bigger bridge.
Has anyone else who signed up heard any updates? I have not received a call or email yet with details.
I signed up on Tuesday. Yesterday I had a phone call from Headway, as the "first step" in my application process. She took basic information, gave me some more information about the requirements, and asked if I would be willing to do more than one location. (nhgirl1970, you will be asked that as well, being that we are in the same state) The next step in the application process is an "in-depth interview" phone call, which I was supposed to receive last night but did not. This morning I emailed the recruiter I spoke with to let her know I didn't get my follow up call. We shall see. I think they are either totally overwhelmed with the amount that needs to be done in such a short time, or are unorganized in their approach.
those are red flags to me....wonder how they would feel if you told them you would submit your report by midnight and just didn't get to it?
I got a call this morning. The town I selected was filled and there was nothing left within a 75 mile radius. The girl I spoke to was very polite and I let her know when I selected the town it was my understanding it was assigned to me and I was simply waiting on the "training."

The whole thing just seems to be very disorganized. I am sorry to lose out on $100, but in the end perhaps I saved myself some aggravation.
Made it through the 2nd phase of the process, which I think means I've got the job. Waiting for emailed instructions, including my conference call and app info. Did agree to do 2 locations, because the 2nd one is only about 10 miles from my home.

In NH each town does their own reporting. The 2 polling locations I'm doing are about 10 miles apart. I'll be given instructions on which one to go to first, report their numbers, wait for confirmation of receipt, and head to the next one. If at either location the polling officials have finished and left, the information will be posted on the door.
Now that I have read through all of your comments, I recall getting something like that, and I didn't associate it with election work but with a news organization. I worked in elections for over 20 years. At first, I though you all were talking about poll watching so I was confused a bit. What you are describing sounds more like counting contested ballots but obviously that wouldn't be done on election day. What mystery shoppers are asked to do gets curiouser and curiouser. It seems that the world depends on us!
I would have liked to do this shop, but I am working the election, so figure it could be a conflict of some sort or another, so did not try to apply. I wondered if any one else was working the polls, and if they had considered doing this shop.
I submitted my name, have not heard back, and am grateful for not hearing back. My county is almost 21,000 square miles, larger than the four smallest states combined and larger than any of the nine smallest states. They fly ballots in by Sheriff's Helicopter from areas out by the Arizona and Nevada state lines.

Our first results are posted on-line within minutes after the polls close but they are only absentee and early voting ballots. Since I work for some consultants, I've been getting updated results each day in 13 different races--by results I mean how many ballots have been cast and what parties the voters are registered with. Of course they won't tell me who is ahead at this point.

Honestly, our Registrar of Voters has it so together and results online so quickly, I cannot imagine why anyone would be needed except to monitor the website from home. Other So.Cal. counties are the same way, so I tend to think this does not even apply to us here. I did see that they were needed up in Inyo and Mono counties where things are pretty much behind the times and very rural. Of course, they are expecting 18 inches of snow over the weekend, so that could be a fun job.
Zoltar is indeed a planet, Since I am Queen we have no need for elections.
