Why you really shouldn't do that ridiculous IKEA shop

From another thread, but totally off-topic so I brought it here.

You know, things like that ikea report from hell. How many people actually go back for round two unless they are desperate? Just sayin

I went back for round two because I convinced myself that 50 bucks for walking around IKEA and talking to a few salespeople must be a steal and I must have just done it wrong the first time. Yeah, not so much. It's a horrible report, the shop is ridiculously underpriced for the work involved, and IKEA apparently doesn't care about the results because they have you asking cafeteria checkout clerks their name and let you do the shop every 30 days, and even specifically state you should continue the shop even if you're recognized as a shopper.

My guess is they're wasting money on mystery shopping because they think they're supposed to do it and don't know what it's intended to accomplish, so they don't worry about the results. Or they just think their employees are stupid and can't draw incredibly obvious conclusions. They would rather get meaningless compromised reports from desperate people who need money and don't know better, so they underprice the report and let the same suckers do it over and over and out themselves.

Add to that their MSC has a stupidly long payment cycle and sometimes doesn't bother to pay at all, and I'm officially removing myself from IKEA's list of suckers.

These IKEA shops have been reported as a horror show for years on this forum.

Tell the msc to give a wake up call to their client!!!
We won't have an IKEA in our area until this fall, but thanks to this forum I know NOT to sign up for the shops!

Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product. Eleanor Roosevelt
The funny thing is, I don't even like to shop at Ikea after hearing about their horrible reports. I've lost some respect for them.
How much would be worth it? $200? 300?

What do you think?

Happily shopping Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut
I've never even been to an Ikea store, but now I feel like I'm not part of the "club". Maybe I should try one of the shops since you have my curiosity piqued.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
It wouldn't be so bad if everything fell into place....the employees were in their departments when you get there...and were all wearing name tags, etc.

I made up some story about a friend that wasn't comfortable leaving her kid in the child care center...and after talking the the worker--who was older and grandmotherly like...i suggested that my friend might be comfortable with her watching the kid and could I have her name so my friend could call and see if she was working before she sent to the store....

for the mattresses...there was no one around..they were at some meeting..leaving the department uncovered...
The one near me seems to have gotten very strict about having visible name tags. I only encountered one out of the 20 or 30 I had to interact with who didn't have a name tag showing.
They flash $50 bucks and un-knowing shoppers grab them!

I want to thank everyone for warning me here, for at least two years...to NOT take this horror show of a shop! tongue sticking out smiley
when i did it --i think it was $85--probably had a bonus...and i remember the food sucked..very dry....and wasnt prepared and I had to wait a long time...

The REAL reason people keep taking that Ikea shop? Because they're not members of this forum.

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
I just noticed the IKEA shop has now been removed from my job board. *waves* Hi guys!

Some people really love Ikea. I've been a few times and wasn't impressed. They have a few cool items, but overall I thought their stuff looked stark and cheap. You should go at least once to experience the mouse-like maze.
I like IKEA. I've bought plenty of stuff from them over the years when I was a "poor" college student. Their stuff isn't bad at all for what it is. I wouldn't furnish an expensive home with it, but it's fine for a rental apartment or a starter place.
My friend bought a bedroom set for her daughter from Ikea last year. Instructions were not in English, and the pictures didn't help much. It took two men (who actually work in construction) almost 5 hours to put it together. When they finished, the concluded that the stuff was not going to last long. It was all pressboard, so it was heavy as heck too.
I used to shop Ikea, but always hated the return. After spending two hours in the store, to have to wait in the returns department was horrible!

Meaning what? The MSC saw your post and removed it? Yikes!

The harder I work, the luckier I get.
It's been there for years, and just today I see it's gone. All other clients for that MSC are still there. One hell of a coincidence.
I don't know anyone who has done the IKEA shop more than once. A shop and evaluation straight from hell and then a very long wait for payment. I dislike having to remind a MSC that the four month wait for payment is up and I would like to see money NOW.

I am a gigantic *personal* fan of Ikea - stylish, modern, affordable, and a fun customer experience all around. Not to mention - not too many places have free daycare so you can shop.

However I unwittingly signed up for one before I had ever stepped into an Ikea store and had no idea what it is all about. That is where the problem lays. If you have never been to Ikea - don't even consider trying the shop. Even if you are a huge fan, and are willing to spend the whole day there - NOT worth it. But, there must be some people who do it because the program is still ongoing and they must be getting some good reports here and there.
I am in Canada with no Ikea around me. Is JYSK the same idea? JYSK isn't too horrible, I did one and have another planned for tomorrow.
You folks on the forum saved me when I was a newbie and thought the $85 payment with bonus looked good.
Thank you thank you thank you!

$85 isn't as bad as $50. It's still not worth it for everyone, but it's not as much of an insult.

I find their mouse maze stunt VERY OFFENSIVE! I also wonder what would happen if a fire broke out, or a blackout. They are 1 disaster away from some serious lawsuits.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they have an emergency plan in place.
i worry about a fire too...i don't know if all stores are 2 floors...but there is limited access to the 1st floor..and hard to find when you are not familiar with the layout of the store.....the up escaltors can be stopped so people can walk down...

i wouldn't depend on employees to lead people out in an emergency...even if they are allegedly trained to do so...in a real emergency ...they may just get themselves out.

maybe there are other emergency stairwells?

there are shortcuts posted through departments...but would be impossible to follow the signs in an emergency with smoke in the building and panic..i had a hard time following the short cuts normally......and when i do go to Ikea..i only want to shop the 1st floor, but they make you go up tothe 2nd floor 1st...

Ah, that explains it. Once my husband and I got stuck on the second floor and, try as we might, we could not find the down escalator or elevator. After a while, it became so ridiculous that we joked about them eventually finding our skeletons. smiling smiley

I intend to live forever. So far, so good.
They have all the required emergency exit doors and lit exit signs. I was lost in one and tempted to use the emergency exit doors and walk down the outside stairs and set off the door alarm.

I found two of those before the normal way out. I'd be willing to bet someone has done it before.
