On site retirement community

What does this entail? If someone has done this can you share some insight? Also, these seem to be targeted to and I was wondering if there is an issue finding a target as well?

I didn't really enjoy it. The residents looked depressed and the furniture and other items looked old..

When I was 6 years old, I was traumatized by what I saw in an old folks home... This was a school field trip... Who takes 6 year olds to the old folks home? (now called retirement homes). The sites and smells I NEVER forgot....

As a result, I NEVER wanted to get old and eat applesauce and wear diapers...

So this was the first time I ever stepped into what they called "assisted living" It made me depressed again. I always wondered if my mom would have ended up in one of those places if something happened to me. But she passed from a bad heart years ago and thankfully never had to live in one of those places...
I enjoy doing them. There is a location near here that's so fine I wouldn't mind living there right this minute. Located right on the shore of the lake and a breath-taking view of the harbor.

Other location also don't bother me, my background is in geriatric social work so I'm very comfortable doing this.

I've done several in Arizona. I had to take a lot of photos for one but I was shopping for my Mother so the target welcomed it. All the places were lovely and expensive retirement apartments or assisted living. These were NOT nursing homes. The targets were easy to schedule since they worked 5 days a week and were the only sales staff. The pay ranged from $35 to $75. Some recommend you stay for lunch and the food is off a menu with professional chefs. Since these shops are generally a "one time only" shop, they are in need of new shoppers. I plan to do more this winter.
In a back issues of the MS Magazine, there is a two part article on just what it takes to do these. I do as many as I can and have traveled from CT to FL to do them both in video and in traditional modes.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I had a very good experience shopping an assisted living home. They had a more complete care area, but I wasn't taken there. The home was really clean and nicely decorated. The rooms were all single, with a complete bathroom, and a microwave and small refrigerator. Some couples were there, together. Meals were all in a tasteful dining room. Every meal they could choose from several regular entrees such as steak and fish, or the special of the day. There was a lounge, and a beautiful activities room, for art and bingo. They went on bus trips in the home's bus, such as to Walmart, a church, or local attractions. I evaluated it really highly, but it was expensive. Night Owl, at 3:55 pm, for a change.
I did a few of them. I realized I can't afford them on my retirement income! Depressing as heck to realize I couldn't afford the retirement communities/assisted living facilities.
