PRISONS: Are they shopped ???

This came to mind while following the NY escapee story.

Months back I thought somebody said they shopped a sundry type store in a
prison and it was an audit involving an ice cream freezer I think...

Prisons don't have to cater to the customer at the location. They have lobbyists that do this to get the contract. Once they greased the right palms, they could give a rats ass how the non-customer inmates are treated.
I got an email for taking pictures of the prison for $6 I think. I didn't read it long enough to see if it was only the outside or not.

There are prisons that have gift shops for visitors, where prisoner made items (art, jewelry, etc.) may be sold. The gift shops are outside of the secure area and open to the public. I have seen shops for these a few times over the past 10 years.
