When the server tells you the food tastes like ear wax

....you know it's going to be a bad report. And when your vegetarian guest orders a fettuccine Alfredo and it arrives covered in crumbled bacon, it's going to be a really bad report. Oh, and reimbursement-only sad smiley

i would privately send an email to the scheduler.. if you put it on the report, they'll likely know who you are.. unless you don't plan on going again for a LONG TIME.
How is Fettuccine Alfredo vegetarian?

Fettuccine alfredo is usually vegetarian-friendly but not vegan. Sounds like a difficult report to write and I hope it wasn't a location you plan to shop again soon.
Vegetarian = doesn't eat meat. Different than vegan. I won't be eating there again, ever. In fact, I'm probably going to stop doing reimbursement-only restaurant assignments. It's not worth it. Even a restaurant that is normally good can have a bad night, and then you're stuck with no reimbursement and a long, detailed report to write.
Yup, vegan doesn't eat animal products. Vegetarians can eat eggs and dairy...pescatarians eat fish, and so forth.
I'm wondering how the server knows what earwax tastes like...or maybe it tastes like earwax because someone added some to the food? Ick.

Yeah, I was unclear about that too. Actually, she described the food item as "an earwax aftertaste." I wasn't about to ask for clarification smiling smiley

I'm afraid the devil in me would have forced me to ask for elaboration.
Wasn't there some godawful movie with Ryan Reynolds that no one who eats in restaurants should ever watch?
IMO, restaurant shops are too much work to allow me to enjoy my food. Also, if they are being shopped for a reason, that gives me pause. And finally, I work for cash, not food, games, gas, oil changes, etc.

I, for one, am glad you are giving them up. I would rather pay out of pocket for a meal I can enjoy.

I'm a vegetarian! I eat critters that don't eat animal products!

Thanks JAS!

JAS, I used to work in a pork plant. Talk about hog heaven!

So you eat chickens (which eat grass and grains) and cows (which eat grass) because they don't eat other animals or animal products. But you draw the line at eating eagles (a carrion), hawks (another carrion), and predators such as lions and tigers (which eat other animals)? That is your definition of a vegetarian? Please clarify.

Food for thought for you vegetarians:
You eat plants but are plants not living things.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
Yes, Buffalo, I'm sure that no vegetarian has ever considered that.

Seriously, a person doesn't make a lifestyle choice like becoming a vegetarian that goes against the norms of society without some serious thought. The question I have is, why are some meat eaters so threatened by vegetarians?
It is none of my business what a consenting adult does with a consenting plate of food behind closed doors.

My brother refers to vegetables as those things food eats.

Was the fettucine alfredo advertised as vegetarian or did the guest ask if it was and it came with bacon anyway? If not I don't think that should be held against he restaurant. If a person wants their food to be vegetarian they need to order only things labeled vegetarian or confirm with the server. Otherwise there is no guarantee it will be vegetarian.
Fettuccine Alfredo is a fairly classic recipe containing no meat. If it was not on the menu as a Chicken or Shrimp Alfredo I would never expect it to have anything other than cream, butter and Parmesan. I have been to restaurants where some of the cooks decide to take liberties with recipes so the dishes are inconsistent and don't reflect the ingredients listed on the menu. In this case it was simply a matter of giving meat to a vegetarian which was not life threatening. Worst case would be including an allergen the diner could not immediately see.

The strange thing was that the menu didn't even have chicken or shrimp alfredo....only fettucine alfredo. She orders this entrée all the time, at many different restaurants, and this was the first time something like this happened. Even stranger is that there was a mountain of crumbled bacon on top, as well as mixed in. I'd say there was more bacon than actual noodles. It was very odd. To top it off, they covered the top of the entrée with green onions.

They were probably trying to hide the earwax flavour with bacon and green onions...
Couldn't you just send the meal back and ask for no bacon. I don't see a big deal here. You could put this in your report. There are some restaurant shops that I like, I pick and choose the places as long as the fee covers the check, I know how to order. If I wanted to make more above the fee, I would only do those shops, which are far and few between.
I did a reimbursement only restaurant shop a few weeks ago (mid-level) which specifically stated that you were not allowed to complain about anything. I had to take a picture of every food item and the intent was that someone in Corporate was going to compare the "as delivered" photo to the corporate standards (this was for a chain of steak houses in California with about a dozen locations). I was also forbidden to make any special requests, not even allowed to ask for dressing on the side for instance. I don't know the parameters in Dare's shop, but it might not have been possible to send it back. There have been other threads where the food was bad and the shopper was allowed to complain, and the manager comped the meal. In that case, no edible meal, no reimbursement required, and no shop fee - but the report still needed to be submitted.
