Measure CP Tax Shop

I spotted a tax shop in my area that has gotten up to $80 shop pay and $600 in reimbursement for having my taxes filed and paying for the service out of the refund. Only stipulation is that I get back $400 in Federal, which I will. Anyone done these and are they worth it? I haven't done any work for them yet but I've been waiting for a promising tax shop (from any company) so it's one less thing I gotta do this year and extra cash, of course. (:

I am considering the same shop. But, I'm no where near ready to file. I'm still working on my mileage for 2016 (didn't trust the app I used). I will also want to prepare my taxes myself before having someone else do them. I just have to hope there are still tax shops around next month. Most folks are still waiting on their W2s to arrive. Why do they start these shops so damn early in the year.

I planned to do my own first as well just to double check everything. I worked for two companies last year as a regular, W2 employee and I guarantee those W2's will arrive some time between Jan 31st and Feb 7th as always sad smiley

I've wondered to myself on these shops, if I have expenses to deduct or report as part of mystery shopping....is that disclosing yourself as a mystery shopper on a shop? grinning smiley
These are things I think about.
In past years, many tax shops have still be available in Feburary and March. You probably can wait out a bonus, but that's always hard to say. I suspect the tax preparers are told that mystery shoppers will be there.
Why divulge that we're a MS? I intend to say, if asked, I'm a field inspector or something of that nature. Am I missing something - how would they know if we don't tell them? The 1099s I have received so far list the company name, period. As an example, would Suzie tax lady know that Bare International was a mystery shopping company.

One of my W2's arrived today. I imagine my W2's from the other company will be last minute since we employ a few hundred thousand people. I still see tax shops though. I've already started working on the parts I can fill out with my software.

I picked up this one for this year, but haven't done it yet. I did it last year with another MSC and it was pretty straightforward. That MSC is doing them again this year, but dropped the pay A LOT (and when I did it last year, they didn't cover the entire cost of my tax prep (which you really have no way of knowing ahead of time), but their reimbursement is quite a bit less than Measure CP's is. I tell them I am a mystery shopper if they ask -- remember, you report everything you make, not just those who send you the 1099's, so I need to explain what it is and how I track it. The MSC cleared this (the store wouldn't expect you to be mystery shopping them if you tell them you do it, and if they do, just lie!)
