I am being released from Disney hell this Friday

I have been posting about boondocking and such for a bit now. I have let yall know how I shower, do laundry, and keep sane. What other questions does anyone have?

I have spent the past month trying to fix my truck issues and stay financially in the black. Unfortunately it was in a home where the wife loves Disney and romance movies to the point that she thinks there is good morals and they are real. Don't get me started on Barbie. So This Friday, I have the capital to move down the road and several things in order. This means I am heading south and hopefully getting the truck I have always dreamed about. I just hope that the seller doesn't go on another mental trip and forget to sell me the vehicle - like he did 2 weeks ago. Yep life has been so much fun in a please shoot me sorta way. Nothing like waking up to Disney Radio being blared when you have a headache from dealing with witless bureaucrats for 2 weeks straight.

Anywhoo - last chance to ask me questions. I will be posting my big answer on Friday.

Ok, I'll bite. How do you feel about signs for panhandlers? Do you like the one that says, "Just smile?" How about, "I won't lie. I need a beer?" "Will work for food?"

I've studied boondocking as a possible lifestyle choice (favorite blog on the topic is To Simplify). But when I looked at rigs, they were so expensive and got horrible gas mileage. What do you drive? How do you plan your routes - how far out do you schedule shops? How do you decide where to go next? Do you shop for companies that pay by check? How do you handle your mail? Thanks for opening up to questions. It's a fascinating lifestyle.

Most of my life revolves around knowing someone. I even get jobs at times because I know someone. I get help on the side of the road because I know someone. I get awards because of things I've done where people know me. Someone I know gave me a kitten, informed me that my new neighbor is on drugs and is not to be trusted, watches the house when we are gone, offered me some homemade cake, told others I can be trusted. . . . I just can't see giving that all up for seeing places I can learn about by watching a television travelogue. Even if I go to a neighboring county, I meet people who know people I know.

The oddest though was meeting a man in the military in Alaska who grew up in the same tiny town where my cousin has lived her entire life in Virginia. Yes, I travel sometimes. Rarely.
Sorry folks, I am playing financial catchup and trying to get down the road as well. It has been a heck of a month with the issues with my beast. Everything is fixed - sorta. I also reached my money goal - and in 10 days! I will answer questions as soon as I can breath for more than a minute!

I am resurrecting this topic. I am looking for serious questions. I am Mormon so underwear questions are a nogo for me. As far as the panhandling question, that is a complicated question. I answered it in a post - sorta. Basically there are several "levels" in this subculture. If you have questions about the authenticity of a persons holding a sign, ask them but please be nice and remember that the time you take from them is time that they are not making money. Handing them something to drink (Gatorade, soda, water) and maybe a snack will be welcomed and will offset the time you are taking from them. Also just because they are holding a sign doesn't mean that they are drug addled alcoholics wanting a fix. Many want a shower, a room for the night, clean clothes. Handing them a gift card from Pilot or the nearest truck stop will be welcomed. Again ask, talk and be open to the person you are speaking to.

With those questions out of the way, please let me know what question you have about traveling and ms. I will answer the question about vehicle, staying positive, and route planing shortly.

There is a saying that states, "when you are comfortable with yourself, you can then be with others." also "you are never alone when you are happy with yourself and know yourself." also "sometimes you need to take a break from others in order to balance oneself."

Hey, Gypsy - how you do keep connected to the internet being on the road so much, and what types of electronics do you use/not use? I have an elaborate technological set up that I can't imagine would easy to set up on the road all of the time. What about even just getting online (unless you're always at starbucks) or how you pay a bill for mobile phone - do you have a contract? Tracphone??

Genuinely curious....thanks!
Hey Gypsy, what happened to this thread?

I too am interested in the mobile set up that you use. I think you have mentioned using a Hot Spot device and that is something I am looking into getting just for the flexibility. Some of the reviews I have read have me almost convinced that it is worth it to ditch my DSL for this WiFi hub.

I can definitely see where handing someone a gift card from Pilot would be a godsend. I have done a number of the "shower" shops and it feels like such a waste to pretend to take a shower when someone could really benefit from that purchase ... but what is a shopper to do? PS - In the summertime I actually wet the back of my hair just to make it look convincing. Some sweltering days I really consider hopping in for a refreshing rinse - and would if I didn't have so many darned shops to do afterwards smiling smiley
Am I just being forgetful or did the title of this topic get changed? I'm also shaking my head at the mormon underwear reference. I know some mormons here and they all wear underwear in addition to the magical kind.

Her Serene Majesty, Cettie - Goat Queen of Zoltar, Sublime Empress of Her Caprine Domain
I didn't take her comment to mean she doesn't wear underwear. I read that because she is Mormon, she will not be answering questions about underwear. Or did I read it wrong?

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
So asking if she prefers Victoria's Secret over Walmart may not get an answer?

That's what I'm thinking, Cettie. smiling smiley Depending on which Mormon church to which she belongs, she may wear temple garments. They would never discuss such a thing.

I hadn't remembered this being the title, either.

And how do you know *that* for sure? winking smiley

Now as for me, I didn't realize that Mormons had to wear special underwear. And I have two cousins who converted (from Lutheran). Never heard a word about the underwear situation. Heh.

Practitioner of the Nerdly Arts.
Yes underware is not up for discussion however maiden form is my sensible choice. Enough of that topic.
I changed the title to the next step in my progression.

The mobile hotspot is my phone although I am trying out Comcast & xfinity WiFi connection to see if they are worth spending money on. The nice thing w/these companies is they are all over the eastern seaboard and down south but they are expensive. I need more time to play w/em before I refer or decline their value. These companies don't require a NY device and can be picked up most anywhere. Again, I want more time before I say yes or plthth. I like my phone hotspot, especially Sprint since it goes most anywhere, connects to all my devices and has unlimited data w/no lag for just over 105 a month. This means GPS everywhere.
My train is coming so next time I will discuss finding directions w/a phone a burger and minutes to spare. Hope I answered your question enough this go around.
