Advertising On Your Car

Are there any legit companies out there that will pay you to advertise on your vehicle? I have found a few non-legit companies, but nothing good. Any advice?

I have never done that and don't know any companies, but I do remember a thread or maybe two of it being discussed. Maybe search for car wrap?

James Bond did an article for the MS Magazine in one of the early issues about car wraps. I think the final determination might have been that this is not a wonderful deal for anyone except the advertiser.
I'm not sure he ever found a legitimate company even though there have to be some out there. Another consideration is what it would pay compared to what you could lose. A car like that would make someone too memorable for many shops.

It was nothing but a ponzi scheme. (Wrap match)

The only thing they wanted to wrap your car with was an ad for their company. you'd get $10 for every sucker who signed up from the ad on your car. But you had to pay $25 for a "background check" (that they never actually ran) and then $7.99 a month for "preferred" ad placement. But there were no ads, just their own. So you were being paid by the suckers who signed up and they would be paid by the suckers they signed up and eventually the people on the bottom wouldn't find any suckers.

Classic example of a Ponzi scheme.

I filed a chargeback with my credit card to recover the $25 paid for the background check they never ran. I never let them put the $7.99 a month on (although they automatically signed me up for it without asking; I demanded they take it off). They did not dispute the chargeback, further proof they never paid for any background check.

I considered reporting them to the US Attorney General since the operation was so clearly illegal. But ... since I got my money back I would have had no standing to prosecute.

I doubt any of them are legitimate. If they ask for money up front, I'd run the other direction.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
Based on my research, just about every vehicle you see that is wrapped with a legitimate business name is owned by that business or a franchise owner.

If you have someone else's ad on your car and a passerby doesn't like that business, he/she could do damage to your car in retaliation.

If you pay someone to put your ad on their car and that person visits businesses not of good repute or always seems to be where the police are called, your business could get a bad name.

If you pay someone to put your ad on their car who has a wreck which is his/her fault. . . .

You get the idea.
Good point Sandra Sue. I belong to the Masons and have a license plate on my car. I always have to remind myself when I do one of the "adult" shops to either back into a parking space [if the place isn't crowded] or else park next door.

Car wraps and fake checks.

This year, one of the biggest scams around is the car wrap or car advertising scam. In a nutshell, you receive an email asking you if you’d like to make some money by having your car wrapped in a well-known brand logo (e.g., ROCKSTAR Energy Drink). Once you respond, you are sent a check for several thousand dollars and asked to deposit it. You are also asked to keep some money for yourself and wire the remaining cash to a graphic designer. This designer is then supposed to come and decorate your car.

The only problem with this plan is that the check is fake and bounces after a few days of sitting in your bank account. You are left with bounced check fees and your bank hunting after you for the missing money.

Warning: Popular Car Wrapping Scam, Letter from scammer below:

1) The first payment will come as a check in the mail.It will include both the installation and removal fee and also the $300.00 accrued to you. You are to cash the check payment as soon as you receive it for the decal wrapping of your vehicle and also deduct $300.00 accrued to you as your up-front payment. However, the rest of the funds would be paid to the Graphic artist that will install the decal on your vehicle. Method of payment will be related to you as soon as you receive the check payment. Nevertheless, it is paramount for you to confirm the acceptance and understanding of this email. Please note that the graphic artist payment covers the installation and removal of the wrap on your vehicle. The installation and removal will be done at your address and it will only take up to 2-3hrs. Subsequent payment of $300.00 accrued to you will come in the mail every Tuesday of the week

It's just a check scam. (some legitimate companies do the car wrap but many are scams) They send you a fake check for more than the amount to wrap the car and installation, you wire the money designated and you are out everything after your bank notifies you the check was fake.
