Yes, it IS a problem!

Small rant here...am I the only one who wishes the phrase "No problem" would go away? It's gotten more and more common (my hubby even finished a text to me last week with the letters NP), but if I was in charge anyone who substituted that phrase for 'You're Welcome' would be drawn and quartered.

I agree with you, unless someone is asking whether it is a problem. My grandmother taught us to use, "It's my pleasure" when being thanked - because it often isn't "no problem" when you're doing something for someone else. Usually it requires effort.

It doesn't bother me, because I understand the intent.

Having said that, I have found myself phasing that phrase out of my vocabulary over the past few years as more people in friends with dislike the phrase.

My friends and I use NP or say No Prob(s) all the time. I guess it is a generational thing.
No, the difference is between friends or as a response from an employee at a place of business.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
In Australia, New Zealand and I believe Great Britain, they say "no worries" or "no worry" instead of no "problem".
@Bubbabubba, don't you understand any time you say such things that I want to draw and 1/4 you? But I am not a good artist and I math is not my strong point.
I still prefer chick fil a's "my pleasure." I notice other businesses using it and while it's not a copywritten saying or anything, I do take it as their signature line. No problem is still better than those who ignore a thank you altogether.

Doesn't bother me in the least. Probably because I say it all the time. What irks me is when people say, "I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less."

YES! This sounds so stupid. The other thing that I hate is these young girls that say "literally" all the time.
"I literally walked to the store." There is no other way to possibly walk to the store! The word "literally" was invented to use with statements that could be taken otherwise. I can't think of any at the moment. It's like literally been a really long week! I think that later on, I may figuratively walk to the store.
I would much rather hear "no problem" than the word "like" used several times in the same sentence. He was like, you know, like completely hitting on me, like wow OMG it was like so weird that he like thought I would even be like interested.
