I would say both good and bad. More good than bad, though.

pros:
many shops/audits
clear instructions
friendly schedulers
on time pay
self assign (once you get started)
date ranges

cons:
some editors seem overly zealous
they refuse to use email
you have to invoice them
Been with Maritz for 18 years now, they're good folks.

This company is among the very best.

Mary Davis Nowell. Based close to Fort Worth. Shopping Interstate 20 east and west, Interstate 35 north and south.
Don't screw up. They're very unforgiving. I messed up on my very first shop with them and I've never been able to shop with them since.
I think every company has one or two overzealous schedulers. I ran into my first from Maritz yesterday. No, I won't drive for an hour round trip to do a three 30 minute shops for $30. I can't afford that lady. When you add in picture sizing and form input time and subtract gas that's less than $6 an hour. She acted like I was crazy for expecting a bonus. I still like the company though.
I got off the phone with Maritz an hour ago, and I still have a headache from it all. I was returning one of their calls. In the process of trying to put together a route so I could help them out with some long-distance assignments, I talked to several people. All were friendly and nice. However, trying to access information about which jobs were available was fairly excruciating. They couldn't see on their end what I could see on the job board, and vice versa. They were doing their best, as was I, but their outdated systemic tools failed us both miserably. Aaaargh!

I only do their bank shops and I have never had any problems. IMO, easy shops, good and timely pay. I really like them.
On no you don't want to shop for them!!! Stay away... RUN! They prefer human contact versus electronic! RUN and don't look back!!! winking smiley grinning smiley

Diane,

In my ten yrs. in this business, I've yet to encounter an MSC superior to Maritz from the standpoint of business. They provide a toll free number and have always connected me with quite a pleasant human to attend to my needs. Not only has my pay ALWAYS arrived on schedule, but they also contacted me on one occasion concerning a check I had misplaced.

With respect to the submission of an invoice, this action is easily accomplished in no longer than 30 secs and is an electronic procedure. As to editors, I've never experienced the slightest problem.
I think they are terrific. None of us are perfect and neither are any one particular MSC; however, if you want my opinion, Maritz has to come out on top of all of the others even though they do not use emails. They pay on time, every time. Most of the time you get to talk with someone instead of push number 1, press number 2, etc. The answering machines and recorders and all of the other technological junk can drive you nuts at times. Have you ever gotten into one of those loops with the Federal Government service hotlines. It is a nightmare. I vote for Maritz as a great company to work for.

the best. i no longer feel a need to work for anyone else.

1. they offer a high volume of shops.

2. the pay is very timely. twice a month. who else does that?

3. i can get a live person on the phone during standard business hours. (with other companies, i've had to hang around my computer all day long to get an email response to any simple question.) and they are all polite.

4. i seldom have to write any narratives. just a few brief notes after each location at most. and the reports are easy.

you may just have to take a high volume of shops and develop time efficiency if you wish to make money. if you take just one or two shops per month, thereby failing to develop time efficiency for each one, then it won't be profitable as with any company.

just about anyone who i've ever heard complain about maritz has either displayed unrealistic expectations about something and/or had committed some guideline violation that they wanted to get away with. or else they had only done one or two shops and hadn't yet learned how to be time efficient. volume and efficiency are the keys to making money with maritz.

They truly are top notch. Like the above poster said...I only work for 3 companies steady, Maritz makes my paycheck every month. I can always count on them. Their editors drive me insane sometimes, mostly because not every client location allows for safe accessibility of some photos. But even with that said, other companies would just void your shop and not pay you. Maritz constantly works WITH the shopper to complete the shops. Even those shops that are not safe to allow for a certain angle on a picture, you just tell them that and they will allow it to go thru.
