Best Mystery Shop Companies in NYC?

Hey everyone! My name's Amanda and I'm new to mystery shopping and would love some tips on where to start. I'm moving to NYC from Oneonta (way upstate NY) and was wondering what were some of your favorite companies for shoppers in NYC? Is there a place besides jobslinger to find good mystery shops? I think I prefer restaurants since I'm not the greatest actress when salespeople are asking me direct questions. All comments help and are appreciated! Thank you smiling smiley

Hi Amanda and welcome! It's great to see new faces. You probably aren't going to be told the best companies for NYC because the only people who know will be from NYC and they aren't going to want anymore competition. This is a highly competitive industry. Bird provided you with a list and all of us experienced shoppers have gone through at least that list and registered with every single company. It's really the only way to get shops in your area. A lot of companies won't have shops in your area right now but that can change at any time. You could register with jobslinger and it will tell you a few companies that are working in your area but the list is very minimal.

Good luck on your mystery shopping career!
It is very competitive and I won't share anything with anyone in my area.

As a matter of fact, a few months ago a new member asked what companies were in her area and her area, was my area. :O

I have to look out for myself.
Hi Amanda. I know what the other members are saying seems harsh. Nobody means and disrespect, but it's one of those things that you'll just have to take our word for - you'll understand after you've been doing this for a while. You'll probably be saying the same thing to the next new person.

Keep signing up for every company you see. Start with 50. Most shoppers are signed up with well over 100. If you don't see any shops in your area with a given MSC today, then you may well see them tomorrow, next week or next year as things change quickly.

Good luck and keep asking questions - just don't ask which company has shops for which clients or which companies pay best, are in your area or have the "best" jobs if you're sensitive to chastisement. All those answers will eventually be apparent anyway if you keep reading the forums.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
Besides, most MSCs that have shops in urban cities aren't actually located in said city most of the time. You have to just apply for companies and go from there. I'm across the lake so I see shops for NY all the time. Keep looking.

And to answer your question, there is one MSC from NY (German based) but I wouldn't recommend them. Hehe.

I gotta say that this was one of the more polite and reasonable ways I have seen this question asked. The way I read it, the OP was asking about best companies 'for shoppers in NYC', not 'best companies in NYC' for shoppers. She also stated a preference for restaurants, and not retail, which makes it an easy recommendation, as it appears the OP is not looking to MS full time or attempt to pay their rent from this endeavor.

I would recommend Coyle and A Closer Look as a starting point for anybody looking to get into dining shops in NYC. Between those two alone, you will have a continuous selection of restaurants available where you can eat in exchange a report + a small fee. You can access the list BBird provided and branch out from there, but I think those two have some of the best dining shops in the city.
