New to Coyle - can you help me understand this?

"Evaluator pay is inclusive of travel. Meals are on your own. Hotel charge will be reversed to the credit card after the stay. "

Does this mean that the compensation is the pay plus reimbursement for the hotel charge? That's what the last sentence sounds like to me, but then the first sentence seems to contradict

I take it to mean that you pay for your own travel and meals, and the charges are reversed on your card, so the payment is what it is.

For the purpose of understanding the statement from Coyle, you need to realize that "travel", to them, is the cost of getting you to/from the hotel. Not the cost of the hotel stay.

The line about meals being on your own is just a clarification point for the posting, since most Coyle hotels offer some meals. You never have food reimbursed unless it's part of the assignments anyway, but that lets you know the assignment requirements will be lighter then normal.

If you are at a higher membership tier with the rewards program for that particular hotel chain, you will receive a free breakfast each morning, however. No reporting required....and it's been asked elsewhere, but I kept my points from the test visit for this client.

The pay is the fee listed. You get that in addition to the allowed hotel charges being reversed.

But keep in mind that unless you do a number of restaurant and/or phone shops they won't assign you any hotels.

If you're in an area (or willing to travel there) where there is a hotel up against a deadline, they've been known to take a chance on a shopper.

The "inclusive of travel" shops are sitting there. Cheap client. Summer is blacked out for most of them, and they don't have a lot of dates open.

ETA: Removed the "better choice" sentence because I see that it's also gone to "inclusive of travel." I think this is a bad move since the travel is the bulk of the incentive.

Now scheduling travel shops for the day after Christmas through mid-January.

That's odd. Before I had any shops for them they had several hotel shops in my area that sat on the board for 4 months. I applied for it and never got it. I emailed Kim and was told I could not have any hotel shops until I had done several phone and restaurant shops. They took them off the board, unassigned.

Hi there, newbie at the forum. I am in the same situation. Did a local Sheraton shop and got paid $85 and with nightly rate credit card charges "reversed" My biggest concern is that: will the nightly rate be added to my earning with Coyle so that it's part of my $600 IRS limit with each contracted mystery shop company?

Let's start with the rules of the forum which are we cannot mention the name of a client and the MSC in the same thread. You can edit your post to remove the hotel chain.

I have no idea what IRS "limit" you are referring to. $600 is just the cut off for companies. If you are below that they are not required to send a 1099, above they do. We are required to report every dime we earn on our taxes. Many find it easiest to report all monies received from MSCs then back out their expenses. Since your charges were reversed, there is no reason for them to show up when the MSC pays you.
