Filthy Hotel Shop

I'm currently doing my second shop ever and, like the first one, it's a hotel shop. The first hotel was sparkling clean and brand new. BUT...this second hotel is so filthy I can hardly bear to stay in that room, even for one night. Don't worry...I saw no evidence of bugs of any kind...thank goodness! But every surface is either stained or tattered of grimy. It's an extended-stay hotel, by the way.

The door frame appears to have ten years worth of grimy fingerprints on it. The sheets are stained, including a blood stain, and have holes torn in them. The carpet is so grimy, especially just inside the front door, that it must not have been shampooed in years and years.

The upholstered easy chair has spots on the arms that look like food or bodily fluids were just left to dry. I would feel more comfortable sleeping in my car than it that room. In fact, I just might do that. Don't worry, I will drive to the nearest Walmart and sleep there. Walmart allows RVers to sleep overnight, so how can they object to someone sleeping in a minivan?

I'll go ahead and complete the shop and give lots of un-opinionated detail in the feedback form. But I will not be at all comfortable touching anything in that room.

First thing, before resorting to sleeping in your car, would be to ask for another room. You need to give them the opportunity to make things right.

Honestwitness, you said, "I would feel more comfortable sleeping in my car than it that room." You then listed a litany of problems with that room. A new sheet does not resolve the problems. You need to ask for A DIFFERENT ROOM in order to give them the opportunity to make things right.

I'm still a greenhorn at doing hotel shops and I'm sure you're right, JB. However, based on the shabby, ghetto-like appearance of all the exterior areas of this hotel, I don't have any confidence that another room would be any different.

This entire place is so old and run down that I'm truly surprised the company wants it mystery shopped. The parking lot is about 3/4 full and the other tenants/guests are clearly from the very lowest strata of income levels in this area. The nightly rate here is the lowest I've seen since the 1970s. I wasn't even aware, until this experience, that there even existed such drab and run-down hotels.

By the way, I did ask for a better sheet, and after putting it on the bed, noticed there were also blood stains on the blanket. I decided to just ignore them and get this assignment over with as soon as possible. It's evident that the level of expextation for cleanliness is very low in the entire place.
Before applying for ANY hotel shop, go to tripadvisor.com and read the reviews! A few complaints for a hotel that also gets some high grade would be okay. But watch out for reports of bed bugs, etc.

Long stay hotels in the lower price ranges vary from great to horrific, so know before you go.
