Fast Food Menu Pictures

Has anyone been successful at doing the fast food menu pictures? I tried doing this yesterday and was scolded by an employee! I don't know how to get the pictures clearly without anyone seeing you do it. Any pointers?

I never liked those shops but back when I used to do them I carefully put my camera back in its original box, put it in a shopping bag and took it into the place with me. I then made like I was just learning to use the camera to take pictures of everything around me. If anybody took notice they saw somebody with the camera box open, the open instruction booklet on the table fidgeting around with their 'obviously new camera'. Even though I have long since moved on to another camera (a Nikkon), there are still times I drop the old Kodak box in a shopping bag and go 'learn how to use my new camera'.
Since you did not name the client, can you tell us which MSC it is? I have different answers for different projects.

And are you using a camera camera or a camera phone?

I have not done these, but have heard some wonderful cover stories to tell the employees if "caught." They include,

I'm getting information for an office lunch - my boss wants the prices,
I'm doing a school project,
I'm collecting info for my elderly invalid parent/relative - they want to see the menu up close on the computer.

Happily shopping Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut
Flash,
Brilliant!

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Scold the employee right back, tell them you are taking pictures for a friend, or better yet, a parent who wants something but they don't know what...

Then tell them that you will go to their competitor because they are rude!

You could also add that you are standing on public property (assuming these are the drive thru board ones) and why is it a problem for them that you are taking a picture to gather order information!!

If you are not inside the establishment, there is no legal problem with taking pictures. Tell the employee to get the manager and speak to him/her.

Of course this is not optimal for a MYSTERY shop but I will tell you right now, no fast food employee is going to yell at me for taking pictures OUTSIDE the establishment.

O.o o.O

Happily shopping New England and beyond!!!!!
Also, if you have a fancy camera with a really good zoom, you can park near the drive thru menu and take from the parking space (assuming there is no cars blocking you).

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.
It appears that the OP has left the building. I got the impression that the OP was taking photos inside. I believe the FF Menu Audit project has already been completed for this quarter so there are no active shops right now. But until the OP returns to clarify which MSC, we can not know for sure.
