That would be a great idea. There are many very small boutique companies which are regional, some of the other big companies are bought by another and have a new name, and still others seem to change their name so they can lure in the unaware. World Alliance ( used to be NARMS) does not list most of the small but choice companies.
I've had good luck with Craigslist for local small jobs. I research, research, research, before I apply. I will only work for companies where I am an employee, I don't get as many impossible flat rate jobs that way. As an IC it seemed like it was an uphill battle every single job. A 1 hour DVD changeover turned into a five hour ordeal as no one had serviced the store for the last 3 changeovers. Another 1 hour service turned into a 3.5 hour, 515 piece return as there were 14 boxes of product to go through and figure out which were still current titles. Getting too old for drugs or liquor, so I need to stay away from jobs that will make me need/want either.
